Underwood Stakes

so this bloke, he comes through all the right races.

Look, he comes through the Underwood Stakes, the Turnbull Stakes, the Caulfield Cup, and the Cox Plate into the Melbourne Cup.

So he's had the right preparation.

He's just been ticking over perfectly.

Farlap won at Williamstown.

Yeah, he won the Underwood Stakes.

Morty Alec, there were tracks.

Yeah, there was Epsom.

He had a really good campaign in Queensland.

He won the Underwood Stakes second up.

He ran past Cosmic Crusader like he was standing still that day.

So then he's gone to that – Might and power stakes.

But prior to that, it was unbelievable in the Underwood.

So won the Underwood Stakes at Caulfield in September, then

in the Might and Power.

He's proven though, Nick, that, uh, that weight for age form through the Underwood and the Might and Power is certainly very good.

And the Underwood Stakes, what a, what a race it's been.

So Birdman, of course, your winner, but Cosmic Crusader came out of it, won the Turnbull.

Attrition came out of it and won the Hill, and Kingswood's come out [chuckles] of it and won the Caulfield Cup.

He brings the best form.

Two back, he's run second to Birdman in an Underwood Stakes, and then he's come out.

He really ate up the fast tempo and the heavy surface in that Turnbull Stakes, but he's got the better of Aliana.

He raced past Aliana on the corner.

So he's got to run out 2,400 metres now and He's got a bit of a sticky draw in barrier 17.

He's got to do it back on top of the ground.

But that Underwood Stakes performance, that measures up.

I probably can't...

Now you're going to, you know, a really firm track at Caulfield.

Uh, but you go to the Underwood Stakes and, you know, the stewards report had Willie Pike noting that, uh, he thought the, the firmer track was against Cosmic Crusader then when he, when he got beaten by Birdman, but he still rated really, really highly in that second in the Underwood.

So certainly on ratings and everything he looks good, but he's got barrier 17 to conden- tend with and, um, and you also just feel like he's been up for a while.

You know, he won the Bletchingling over 1200.

It's gonna be a good race to watch, but I think you're right.

Uh, a lot of people probably just waiting and maybe seeing if She's Alibi even gets out a little bit late and touches that dollar fifty, um, with potentially some money for Birdman off his big win in the Underwood Stakes.

But it does look a really good contest, and we know one thing, uh, the race will be tactical.

Six horses, no natural leader.

She's there at, uh, dollar thirty-five in from a dollar forty for Luke Nolan, Peter Moody, and Katherine Coleman, and the Fred Nobke, of course, the owner of this girl from Queensland, who's made Pakenham home.

She's ahead of the one Birdman, the winner of the Underwood Stakes, who of course thrashed Cosmic Crusader, has come out and won the Turnbull since.

He was three dollars thirty when they opened up this market.

He's been a drifter out to four dollars.

I just think that Birdman gets his chance here against her at the two thousand meters.

So I've gone one six five four.

I just love the way he won the Underwood Stakes last start, uh, putting Cosmic Crusader to the sword.

That was a race that was run quite quick from the thousand meters, and he just beat them for, for speed and for class late there.
