Uncut Gems

I mean, it was very clearly like to the backdrop of the 2016 election, right? We heard audio clips and things like that, that very much grounded us in that time.

So, I mean, maybe I hadn't thought about it that way, but maybe I think there was like, there was some Howard Ratner uncut gems here, you know, in that sort of...

i i was getting that um sort of vibe and like not so much in the narcissistic way but in the kind of silver tongue way like there were some aspects of my father in there uh my dad was a charmer like that and for better or worse he got himself in some situations uh because of the way he he spoke and like my dad wasn't a narcissist or or anything like that.

But there were some of those vibes that, you know, I was like, huh, it's a little bit of Howard Ratner, a little bit of like a toned up version of my dad.

We all kind of enjoyed this one.

Didn't love it, but didn't hate it.

I think we all like Uncut Gems more because, spoiler, spoiler, spoiler, Howard gets shot in the end.

And so

Was it the most entertaining movie I've ever seen? No.

Do I think the new like filmmaking style where everyone's trying to do like the Safdie Brothers, Uncut Gems or Marty Supreme is like the best trend? No.

You know, where they got the constant, you know, schizo music in the background and moving shots all the time and they make everything just giant anxiety ridden.

It worked for those two movies that the Safdie brothers made because they're literal.

By the way, Uncut Gems, which I really like, and Mars Supreme, great movies.

Like both of them.

They're the same movie.

what is this? I was going to say, it's like the one with Adam Sandler, Uncut Gems, where it's like, you realize you're in his ass.

You're like, oh shit, that's Jigsaw's balls.

And so it's, I, and like, I think like some of the drama in there, like, doesn't like weigh on you too long because like the way the movie's built it's like okay, let's move it along, which is good.

I don't know if it was you, Evan, who I was talking to, but it might have been someone else, but they described it as a more subdued Uncut Gems.

It feels very in a similar vein to Uncut Gems, but yes, much less stressful.

And I think another distinction is that you, for me personally, I'm legitimately rooting for him.

And in Uncut Gems, I feel like I'm rooting for him against my own better judgment.

Sandler's character in Uncut Gems is doing these things altruistically in his own way.

You're on the second floor of an abandoned building that was once your family's apartment.

And a guy driving a tank who looks like Adam Sandler in Uncut Gems starts rolling down the road.

It is crazy.

Um, my reviews by Corbin, they gave it four stars in the heart and they said John Turturro and a quiz show walked.

So Adam Sandler and uncut gems.

Uh, yeah, I think an apt comparison in some ways.

uh, Adam Sandler's, uh, starring turn and, uh, uncut gems definitely gives Herb Stemple energy, but in a much more like chaotic, dangerous way.

Herb Stemple for the most part is kind of this like harmless, you know, guy who like wants to be great and famous and loved, but he, he doesn't have the potential where Adam Sandler is kind of, you know, truly wrapped up in some, some mischief and some devious things.

Can't remember.

And for obvious reasons, I know why you have not seen Uncut Gems, because you say it might be a little triggering, but man, KG playing himself in that movie was great.
