Here's what the Ulster Unionist Party, uh, leader and former PSNI officer John Burrows has to say on this.

Well, there's two things here, Stephen.

Let's try to heal wounds that no longer really are that significant.

What's interesting here is that this individual told the NIO that that he was, quote, relatively happy that the DUP would benefit from the fractures within the Ulster Unionist Party.

He said that the Ulster Unionist deputy leader, John Taylor, now Lord Kilclooney, was only biding his time to take over when Trimble fell flat on his face come May.

So there's a real sense of expectation, of anticipation, that Trimble is fundamentally so weak that he cannot survive.

And...

A very interesting fact, the chief prosecutor in the trial was Edward Carson, who Irish historians will know from his Ulster Unionist connections.

Carson was, in fact, a dub.

And himself and Wilde both had studied at Trinity College together.

We have to support it.

But that agreement more or less kind of collapsed as soon as it was started because the various leaders of the Ulster Unionist Party weren't able to keep it going.

And so Fitzgerald was involved in that and was centrally involved in negotiations and would have regarded it as something important.

And I think its failure was, as well as because it just continued the violence in Northern Ireland, it was also a failure that he felt when he became Taoiseach he had to address.

Well, at the risk of being a politician saying he doesn't know, I mean, the jury is essentially still out.

So there is a lot of evidence to point to the fact, given the shenanigans that have went on within the Ulster Unionist Party in recent weeks, that this is an attempt by an incoming Ulster Unionist Party member minister to delay important decisions that affect our health service, that affect patient outcomes for people right across the North.

So there's a lot of evidence to suggest that that could be.
