You know, Uhtred, and he loves-

And like, there is this theory that, you know, Alfred had a, a Viking advisor that basically advised him.

And it's like this very apocryphal person that is portrayed by Eivor in Assassin's Creed Valhalla is portrayed as Uhtred of Bebbanburg in the last kingdom of novels and TV show, but like that person isn't named.

It's like a theory that he had some kind of influence and he took a, uh, Dane, a Dane as an advisor.

I mean, it makes sense.

Um, I mean, I think it's definitely possible.

Although, um, for that person to not be listed in his chronicle seems like an oversight.

However, you know, the last kingdom very much explains it as like, you know, Alfred is writing you Uhtred out of the Chronicle because he doesn't want anyone to know about your deeds, you know? So that's how the last kingdom explains it.

I don't think, I don't think, um, Avor is ever really close enough with Alfred to like be an advisor.

And this first voiceover, o- I'm just gonna jump into it, because there's a voiceover as we've c- become accustomed to, right? But he's not, he's not Uhtred, son of Uhtred.

He's not...

What did John Stone always say? Was it John Stone who did the voiceover on the, on the recaps? I don't remember.

His loyalty has always been divided, but when a bid for the throne steeps England in blood, it's time to play kingmaker.

Did I do Uhtred's accent?

No, that was more Finan than it was Uhtred, I have to be honest.

Mine does read differently because I paused the film and this is what it said to me.

It said, in the wake of King Edward's death, Uhtred of blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, and his comrades adventure across a fractured kingdom in the hope of uniting England at last.

Okay.

So between Steven Pressfield, Stephen Fry, um, Uhtred of Bebban Burr and stuff, what was the, what's your favorite like kind of historical fiction book that you would recommend out?

I love, I love the last kingdom series.

Um, Uhtred was something else.

I've read them and I've listened to them.

I would tell people stay away from the Netflix.

But either way, we can go down.

That might be a whole other podcast that we do here.

Absolute chaos.

But he anchors this massive continental shift in the perspective of one man, Uhtred of Bebbanburg.

And I just, I love how Uhtred functions as a narrative device here-

And Aemond, he will forever be baby monk from The Last Kingdom.

You know, he has that Uhtred of Bebbanburg swagger Along with that Daemon swag, and yeah, you know, I just can't see Ser Criston Cole.

He was a whiny pants and I just didn't like him at all.

But again, I know it's subjective.
