But the other one...
Ash EllisHOST
17:20
The other one is the Macpherson Tapes.
Ash EllisHOST
17:24
I don't know if you've seen that.
Ash EllisHOST
17:26
Do you know what?
Barry DoddsGUEST
17:26
I've got it on.
Barry DoddsGUEST
17:28
It's like a Blu-ray double thing.
Barry DoddsGUEST
17:31
It's the Macpherson Tapes and is it called the Stone Tapes or something? I've got it.
Barry DoddsGUEST
17:37
I've got it to watch.
Darren LundbergHOST
19:30
They'd already had the last broadcast.
Darren LundbergHOST
19:31
There's a movie that I just found out about called Alien Abduction or UFO Abduction that was made in 89.
Darren LundbergHOST
19:37
Yes, that's a proto version of the Blair Witch because.
Darren LundbergHOST
19:40
Cannibal Holocaust, which you would know about.

17 MINS LATER

Darren LundbergHOST
36:40
Well, like I said, there had been other found footage movies before, but I think Blair Witch perfected it.
Darren LundbergHOST
36:45
Mm-hmm.
Darren LundbergHOST
36:46
And I mentioned UFO abduction.
Darren LundbergHOST
36:47
The thing that's different about UFO abduction versus the last broadcast is that like Blair Witch, it's just the footage.
BenHOST
54:58
I'm going to go with a weird one, which is the McPherson tapes.
BenHOST
55:05
Yeah, the McPherson tape, which is the sort of pseudo-handheld camera taping of an alien abduction visitation by a family.
BenHOST
55:18
Let me make sure I'm not... saying anything wrong because i really love it but yeah so it's from 89 uh dean aliotto is the director and that's the reason i love it so much is because it's still to this day kind of passed around as like a great example of like aliens really caught on film like and so it kind of despite it being released on blu-ray like has as a horror film with the director's name attached to it with all this like extra content about the filming of it it still has this like other life as like a meme of like you know not as much as it did maybe 15 years ago when like the first time i saw it i saw it as like a youtube video on like, you know, a compilation of like real alien encounters, like with some of the other classic ones, like the alien interview and stuff like that.
BenHOST
56:23
Um, so what, yeah, I love that.
JesseHOST
5:51
I've been trying to find some and they're all very silly looking.
JesseHOST
5:55
Because like in the McPherson tape that I told you, it was just some kids walking around with some alien mask on.
JesseHOST
6:01
And I'm like, damn it.
JesseHOST
6:04
Damn it.
JesseHOST
18:08
I watched them yesterday.
JesseHOST
18:10
It was, uh, It's called the McPherson Tapes.
JesseHOST
18:13
It's an alien invasion, but it was filmed in 1989 as a found footage film.
JesseHOST
18:17
Oh, wow.
Meghan CunninghamHOST
41:04
I'm going to have to look that up because there are some actual paranormal... stories and things that involve similar stuff so i'm gonna have to look that up
Curtis AndersenGUEST
41:11
is it the mcpherson tape yes that sounds right it was an m word
Lyle PerezHOST
41:17
it was a uh 1989 uh like found footage alien abduction
Curtis AndersenGUEST
41:22
yes
MilesHOST
4:19
Um, and that format, uh, that this movie started has become massively, massively popular in the last 15 years.
MilesHOST
4:27
Um, this movie, along with, uh, The McPherson Tape and, uh, to some degree, uh, Cannibal Holocaust, are kind of all responsible and predate the Blair Witch for the whole found footage mockumentary sort of, um, horror film.
MilesHOST
4:44
So Drew, had you ever heard of this before I brought it to your attention last week?
DrewHOST
4:48
I, I had not ever heard of this before, no.
Ted DohertyHOST
5:38
Film historian Alexandra Heller-Nicholas once wrote, "Found footage is at its most powerful when it weaponizes authenticity," and I think Cannibal Holocaust did exactly that.
Ted DohertyHOST
5:52
And in 1989, there was The McPherson Tape.
Ted DohertyHOST
5:56
Shot on consumer-grade VHS, this film presented itself as a home video of a family's alien encounter.
Ted DohertyHOST
6:05
It circulated in underground circles, often mislabeled as real evidence.
MoodzHOST
53:43
Unfortunately.
JPHOST
53:46
Um, the director, Eduardo Sanchez of, uh, Blair Witch Project, um, teased that him and the director of The McPherson Tape are working on a project together, which I think that's cool.
MoodzHOST
54:00
You know, that kind of makes sense, right? Because McPherson Tape came, what-
JPHOST
54:03
'99
MoodzHOST
54:04
... decade before Blair Witch in '99.
