But it was at that specific part of Volkanovski's career between February of 2023 and February of 2024 where it felt as though maybe we had seen the best of him, as he had lost three out of four fights, with two of them in a row happening by way of vicious knockout.

But ever since then, he has gone 2-0 with two victories against the very same man, and that is Diego Lopez, as he would fight him and win the vacant title on April 12th of 2025 then defend the title successfully against Diego in January at UFC 325.

And so now, for the first time in over two and a half years, Alexander Volkanovskiy will be fighting someone not named Diego Lopez, and it is the undefeated Russian, Movzar Ivloyev, who is right now in his prime at 32 years of age, has 20 professional fights to his name, all 20 of them being victories, including a perfect 10-0 record in the UFC dating back to April of 2019.

There is no one else on the entire roster that is a more solidified number one contender than Ivloiev.
