summer of sport so it wasn't just the Football World Cup I think we went up against Wimbledon, Silverstone and a couple of other events for good measure so the fact that it did puncture through was yeah really really strong and showing the appetite actually for women's cricket and women's sport now so we're obviously off the back of the UEFA Women's Euro in 2022 and the brilliant Women's Rugby World Cup in 2025 so I think we recognised that the demand was there.
B
7:11Beth Barrett-WildGUEST
We'd still have to deliver a brilliant event, and we certainly had to hustle for every single ticket.
B
7:15Beth Barrett-WildGUEST
And I think that's probably one of the learnings coming out of the tournament, actually, is that whilst we have demonstrated demand now, there is still a bit of a scarcity gap or a demand generation gap.

There's a lot of I mean, if you hope for gender parity, soccer is the sport that I think has the greatest potential for that.

L
30:50Leanne SandersonHOST
You know, but also, like, I'm quite shocked that Trinity Rodman wasn't on this list, and Alyssa Thompson.

Exactly.

L
42:11Leanne SandersonHOST
During the Women's Euros, I actually missed a goal because what they should have done at the men's stadiums is made more bathrooms for women, and they didn't.
L
42:18Leanne SandersonHOST
So there was, there was mostly women that were at these games.

C

But then now in terms of qualification, I don't know how, but somehow they got put in the same group.
A
58:01AishaHOST
And vibes.
C
58:01Chase StarksGUEST
Yeah.
A
58:01AishaHOST

I mean, my two favorite events are the Women's World Cup and the Women's Euro.
M

Is Ted Lasso ready for women’s football?
F
19:08Flo Lloyd-HughesHOST
So if you can't have any of that opposites or dynamic or, um there's nothing at stake here then then it makes it even more i think unbearable and it makes it even more cheerleady when it's already a cheerleader show packing cheerleader on cheerleader is just really whoa well i
J

think also for me kind of around that as well i think what series one at least did which allowed me to sort of suspend my disbelief in a footballing sense was that they didn't really try and engage too much with the real football world you know like so it kind of works that you can be and my big problem with this is like the women's football world building is so it like makes no sense it's like they go to this like casey current game and it's like they've never seen women's football before but then we know because we see one of the characters watching clips of chloe kelly on tiktok that like england women won the euros in 2022 and i'm like i was talking to someone about it and they were sort of saying oh well it's meant to sort of show like what football administrators are really like that they they haven't made any attention to women's football blah blah and i was like okay, but I don't, I'm sorry, I can't buy that you've got like, Keeley and Rebecca who are like, supposedly really into this and then they basically like, the Euros went over their head.
J
20:25Jessy Parker HumphreysGUEST
Also, the
B
20:25Becky Taylor-GillGUEST
reason that they're like, we want a women's team, we want to profit off this is because of winning the Euros back to back.
B
20:31Becky Taylor-GillGUEST
Like, that ecosystem wouldn't exist for them to be like, we want to invest in this.
F
20:36Flo Lloyd-HughesHOST
I also think Ted Lasso has tried to be a show that many shows have done.

A
38:34Aoife LaneGUEST
Um, like I went to the Women's Euros last summer, and the matches were absolutely brilliant.
O
38:38Orla KeelingHOST
Yeah.
A
38:38Aoife LaneGUEST
Like you'd enjoy every minute of them, and that's why the stadiums were full.

if the girls get there.
A
54:46Aoife LaneGUEST
Um, I'd love a World Cup, and I, after going to the Women's Euros, probably a women's one.
A
54:50Aoife LaneGUEST
Um, yeah, I'd love to go to a really big international women's event.
