U.S. Route 49

There's an intersection in Clarksdale with deep ties to blues history and folklore, and it's made it to a list of the top 10 most haunted roads in the US.

It's been rumored that legendary bluesman Robert Johnson came face to face with the devil at the intersection of Highway 49 and Highway 61 at midnight and agreed to trade his soul for extraordinary music talent.

Johnson immortalized the site in his song Crossroad

Blues.

The Woodall Center is in the industrial park.

A lot of people get mixed up with that.

But either place will tell you where to go.

Dyed diesel is available at fewer locations than conventional pump fuel and has become noticeably harder to come by across much of the country.

P-Fleet lists roughly a dozen authorized locations in Mississippi, including the Delo truck stop along Highway 49.

The executive order does not suspend or override other regulations that remain in force.

State-level penalties for died diesel use on public roads fall outside the reach of presidential executive orders.

It was late November of 2015, and I was deer hunting just outside of Wiggins, Mississippi, near the edge of the DeSoto National Forest.

I had a spot off a side road near Highway 49 in a quiet wooded area with thick brush and only a few clearings.

I had climbed into my tree stand around 3 o'clock that afternoon and planned to stay until dark.

The weather was cool, dry, and still, good for hunting.

And so the legend is, in more modern times, Robert Johnson... on a moonless night, would arrive at a crossroads.

In this case, it's Highway 61, and I believe it's U.S. Route 49 that goes through Clarksdale, Mississippi.

There's a marker there now.
