U.S. Route 42

Tomorrow is National Move Over Day, designed to remind people to move over, slow down, and obey the law in an effort to save lives.

In southwest Ohio, the Mason Mile infrastructure project broke ground yesterday along US 42.

It will create a pedestrian-friendly commercial hub and add 130 parking spaces, plus a community gathering venue.

Completion is expected by summer.

Drees Homes is looking to build on 185 acres that are west of US 42, just south of Rice Pike in Union, Kentucky.

They need the zoning changed from agricultural to suburban residential.

It was a 6-5 no on that from the planning commission, but the decision is now with Boone County Fiscal Court.

Drees' reported proposal is to build 219 single-family homes, 29 townhome units, along with a community center and a swimming pool.

Link NKY says people who live nearby are concerned about traffic and the change there would be.

Also, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is already running a study on exactly how safe that stretch of US 42 is right there in that area.

Some issues have been reported.

I was 14 years old in late September of 2001 when this happened.

It was on my grandfather's farm just off State Route 42 south of Medina and not far from Friendsville Road.

The farm sat right along the road with big open fields stretching behind the house and a long strip of woods at the far edge.

I had ridden my bike around that property since I was little.
