U.S. Route 101

It was a great career.

But Highway 101 is probably, through our area, 65,000 to 70,000 vehicles a day.

Yeah.

On a winter day in Big Sur during the week when it's rainy, you maybe get 2,000, 2,500 cars.

No, he's not on Highway 1.

He's on Highway 101.

I think he's on 101.

She said she was well.

She said she had found a place and people and that the place was on the west side of the Olympic Peninsula, up a private road off Highway 101 north of Forks, and that there was work and a bed and food, and that nobody there cared what a person had done before.

She said the woman who ran it was called Nan and that Nan had told her I would be welcome.

Then she wrote a line that I have read more times than I have read anything else in my life.

I had dug four hundred yards of it myself.

I knew where it ran.

It ran out the south side of the clearing and down through the second growth toward the creek, and I had seen that creek on the drive in, where it went under Highway 101 through a culvert a couple of miles south of the gate, and Carrie's map on the back of the letter showed it bending back toward the road.

It was the only line out of that place that I knew for certain went somewhere.

And these had gone unsolved for more than 40 years.

The two victims were Jane Morton Antunes, a 30-year-old woman who was found with her throat slit in the backseat of her car on a dirt road near Highway 101 in November of 1977.

And Patricia Dwyer, a 28-year-old woman stabbed with a kitchen knife and sexually assaulted in her own home just two months after the death of Jane.

Now, according to KCBX, original investigators had suspected that the murders were linked.

Breakage.

Dark Canyon is less than eight miles from the 101 Freeway, but it's a rugged, remote area consisting of private and federal land.

The rangers patrolling Dark Canyon on August 9th were ensuring the marijuana farm was no longer in operation.

There was some equipment lying around and garden hoses, but no marijuana.

Yeah, especially when some people think, okay, that deputy followed her out.

We don't know if he did or didn't, but two miles of where she was last seen.

And, you know, again, not too far from the 101 Freeway.

Yeah.

One witness was Ronald Cash, a grocery clerk who said, I never saw any shooting stars like these, and I never heard of two comets side by side.

Steve Haas said he was driving along Highway 101 when he saw two glowing golden discs moving side by side.

As he says, they were definitely something I've never seen before.

Other witnesses include fisherman John Ganschow, his brother Fred, and their friends Ed Krug and Ed Allen.
