That massive department contains ICE, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Transportation Security Administration, TSA, FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Coast Guard, which was moved from the Department of Transportation to DHS, The Secret Service, which you might not have realized actually was housed in the Treasury Department until it was moved to DHS.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the CBP, formed by merging parts of the U.S. Customs Service, Immigration and Naturalization, the INS, and the Border Patrol, which manages border security and entry.

Citizenship and Immigration Services, the USCIS, created the handle Lawful Immigration Applications separately from enforcement agencies like ICE and CBP.

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency came along later.

It was formed in 2018 to protect critical physical and digital infrastructure.

But it sure did take on draconian proportions.

Of course, the Department of Homeland Security is not the only place that policies affecting world stability, health, security have either originated or have been executed.

So we'll set the scene.

Imagine that a person encounters a Customs and Border Protection officer at the northern or southern border.

Maybe they're at the airport and they tell them, I'm afraid to go back.

Here's a whole human story contained in that sentence.

And then the lawsuit points to the government's own data to kind of try to make that point.

You know, so according to Customs and Border Protection information, you know, this area known as the big men sector saw fewer than 1.5% of the total apprehensions on the entire southwest border.

over the past five years.

So it's a small number.

So the lawsuit here, Layla, just says that, you know, the government's reasoning for its border plans is incomplete and defective.

Those are those are the words they used in the lawsuit.

And the defendants here, Customs and Border Protection, Department of Homeland Security and the heads of both of those agencies.

And I should add that, you know, I did reach out to both agencies for comment on the lawsuit, but haven't heard back.
