What got you to this point?

Well, I, I really started my journey in the Canadian oil sands because I'm Canadian and, and for many years I was working on forest conservation and the trade of wood and paper products, actually.

And I can actually remember the moment when I decided I had to start working on climate change and fossil fuels.

There was a, a map came across my desk of millions of hectares of forests that were dying in Canada as a result of beetle kill and fires, and I, and I remember that moment thinking, "God, I've spent my entire adult life trying to protect these old growth forests from industrial logging, and now they're going up in flame, or they're being eaten by beetles," m- you know, be- because beetles used to die at a certain temperature, and, and now they don't because it's warmer.

And it was at that moment that I realized, you know, I'd...

In my head, I, I worked on forest conservation, and other people worked on climate change, and I realized, no, I, I, I need to start working on climate change.

These issues, as you know better than most, are super complicated, but what's not complicated is, you know, there are three things causing eighty-six percent of the carbon trapped in our atmosphere.

Talk me through what this treaty is and why some countries balked at the fact that, oh, we don't want to sign another treaty, hence we are not showing up at Santa Marta.

We were brainstorming, and we came up with this idea.

What if we fax all the news stations, but because civil disobedience is illegal, we make it an anonymous fax? And we printed out this piece of paper that said, "Blockades in Clayoquot Sound start July 5th" with no, you know, who it was from.

We figured out how to make the return on the fax machine not show, and then we faxed it to every news, um, in the, in the province.

And that night on CBC News, you know, we, we saw the news hold up the fax.

"And an anonymous fax just in.

Blockades are going to start in Clayoquot Sound on July 5th." And we all clapped.

In footage, police officers can be seen carrying away protester after protester, holding them up by their hands and feet.
