Type O Negative

I think that comes from my metal background.

I'm a huge Type O Negative fan, so I know they do have songs in major keys, but I've [chuckles] I've always erred on sort of like the, the more melancholic sou-sounding music, which is-

Was that, I mean, were kind of looking for that vibe but i mean you're able to pull it off so so well was that uh he's somebody else that you kind of like would follow and were a fan of his work

or well peter steele along with johnny cash and yerky and you know vilvalo and and all of those other lovely baritone and bass voices were kind of my shining light when i was growing up and going through puberty because the moment my balls dropped so did my voice and like you know it's it's a little bit higher now because you kind of you can't walk around talking with like a super low voice all the time right but it's so it's over the years i've kind of trained to speak it a little bit of a higher range but when i was a kid and i was i was 14 15 years old i mean i was really i was like talking like this and i was being made fun of by kids and at the time emo was like a big thing so everyone loved like my chemical romance and afi and every other band with like a really high you know really high voice red jumpsuit apparatus stuff like that and that was stuff i couldn't sing i mean in choir i was a baritone and a bass you know from the moment i was i was that age until then on so Finding bands like Typo Negative, finding an artist like Johnny Cash, finding somebody that had that range really helped me feel like, okay, there is hope out there for me.

Yeah, man.

So you embrace being a ball-dropping baritone.

Mixing together some industrial influences and some gothic overtones, this modern metal masterpiece conjured up some nostalgic feelings, linking this brand new album to bands that I've listened to for damn near forever.

Rammstein, Type O Negative, Ministry, those similar heavy industrial influence bands.

sometimes leaning heavily into that industrial side, only to overcompensate and move that into that gothic side.

Here I am, stuck in the middle, just loving it all.

So

for anybody that's not familiar, we're talking about Johnny Kelly on drums from Typo Negative and Danzig and a handful of other bands.

And then Alex Grossi on guitar, just bringing people up to date on the current choir riot

line.

Well, for me, before I diverge into my history with Tool, there's four bands to me that are very important to me in the 1990s.

The Danzig Band, Typo Negative, Pantera, and the subject of today's episode, Tool.

I became a Tool fan...

I will admit it took me a while.
