Two Oceans Aquarium

Today is also International Coastal Cleanup Day.

So if you're down at the beach and you're not wanting to get into water, maybe join Two Oceans Aquarium and Visions for Change to do that cleanup.

They're inviting Capetonians to think global, act local.

And that is today at Sunrise Beach in Muesenberg.

It is the Two Oceans Aquarium Trash Bash in partnership with Visions for Change from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. clean up and take along some reusable gloves, a bucket to keep all your stuff in, sun protection and of course your enthusiasm most importantly.

International Coastal Cleanup Day, it draws attention right around the globe to the challenge by mobilizing communities around the world to tackle the big problem we've got of litter where they live.

In our beaches here we've got a huge plastic problem and you're invited to go and get involved, get stuck in and try and make a difference.

Next Saturday, the 19th, is International Coastal Cleanup Day.

The Two Oceans Aquarium, along with Visions for Change, are inviting Capetonians to think global, act local, and they're invited to Turn that simple idea into action by turning up to join the Two Oceans Aquarium Trash Bash and the Visions for South Africa, Visions for Change, for a beach cleanup.

It's happening at Sunrise Beach in Muesenberg.

And that's going to be starting at 9 o'clock, going through to about 11 o'clock tomorrow.

It's going to be exciting news.

And of course, our very own Two Oceans Aquarium are going to be very involved with that along with Ushaka in Durban.

And finally, ending off, just a quick reminder, the South African National Parks Week.

That gets underway tomorrow, the 7th.

Uh, some of the facts and figures around what the toads do are pretty impressive.

So let's bring in Helen Lockhart, who is the conservation and sustainability man- m- sustainability manager at the Two Oceans Aquarium.

Um, so perhaps, you know, if you are living in one of the areas where, where toads are active, um, then perhaps just download that list and have it on your, have it on your phone or have it close by so you can call somebody if necessary.

Uh, Helen speaking to us there, uh, from the Two Oceans Aquarium, where she is the conservation and sustainability manager.

So please, if you are living in any of the parts of the peninsula that have these, uh, wetland areas where the toads might be moving, just be mindful of it, particularly if you are on the roads at nighttime, uh, for the coming months.

There was a mola mola, or like a sunfish, that got stuck in a dry dock in Cape Town, and it was gonna just-- it was gonna die.

And somebody called somebody, and folks from the Two Oceans Aquarium, they went over and figured out a way to, like, get a crane and pallets and scaffolding and stuff like that, and they were able to lift it out of the water, all while, like, getting water on its gills.

And, um, so, you know, that is just-- that's a very unlikely, very bizarre, weird success story.

But, you know, that's, that's conservation.
