Jiang offered no relocation site, no cost estimate, and no timeline, and the Transportation Ministry said the plan touches national defense and air transport functions that require careful assessment.

The announcement came as a TVBS poll showed Jiang leading DPP challenger Shen Po-yang forty-nine percent to forty-one percent, a gap that has narrowed from twenty-eight points in May to eight points with the Taipei mayoral race weeks away.

Now to crime news.

The Hualien District Court has sentenced a twenty-six-year-old man surnamed Liu to death for breaking into a junior high school teacher's dormitory, sexually assaulting her, and strangling her in May of last year.

The indictment vindicated Shen, who reported last year that he had been followed and found a pinhole camera disguised as a scooter screw outside his home, and who said he also received threatening letters with the word death written on a photo of his wife.

KMT Taipei City Councillor Yang Qitu, who had suggested Shen might be ill for making the claims, publicly apologised and said he was wrong and sorry, as the case dovetailed with Shen's combative appearance on TVBS's Shao Kang War Room, where host Chao Shao Kang pressed him on marijuana policy and the death penalty.

Next in political news, Overseas Community Affairs Council Minister Su Chia-ching tearfully resigned on Tuesday after the Taiwan People's Party accused her family of parasitizing the council, alleging her 14-year-old son had posed as an official photographer on overseas trips and that her husband used ministry cars.

Xu had previously been fined 100,000 New Taiwan Dollars by the Control for failing to recuse herself from a conflict of interest.

Taiwan's baseball team will hand the ball to twenty-year-old amateur right-hander Lin Yi-wei of Taiwan Cooperative Bank for Monday's Asian Games opener against South Korea, the team's first game of the tournament.

TVBS reported that Taiwan opted for the relatively unknown Lin instead of the widely predicted Wang Yan-cheng.

South Korea, as expected, will counter with Kwak Bin, the fireball ace of the KBO's Doosan Bears.

The high-stakes opener kicks off Taiwan's baseball campaign at the Games, where the delegation is also competing in volleyball, table tennis, softball and other events.
