Tularosa

It wasn't just the girls from the dance camp who were getting sick either.

Take, for example, Tina Cordova, who grew up in the small town of Tularosa, New Mexico, 40 miles from where the explosion took place.

Although she wasn't even born yet when the event took place, her family, who lived in and around Tularosa, New Mexico, suffered a myriad of cancers after the incident, like stomach, breast, and even brain cancer.

At least 10 members of her family were diagnosed with the illness, and unfortunately, some didn't survive their fight, like Tina's father, who developed prostate and tongue cancer.

The tumors spread to his neck and became inoperable.

but lost many family members to it, is a downwinder.

She later founded the Tularosa Basin Downwinders Consortium in 2005.

These are things that are tested where the proving and testing grounds, much like, hey, you guys can blow up an atomic bomb here.

Why don't we test the surveillance state over there? And they did it in a town called Tularosa, New Mexico.

And everything is recorded, tracked, redirected.

Raids were made into the Texas Panhandle, the western line being a few miles east of their camp, and fat steers stolen from the LX and LIT cattle ranges on the Canadian River.

These herds of stolen steers were driven to Tularosa, in Dona Ana County, New Mexico, and turned over to Pat Coughlin, the King of Tularosa, who had a contract to furnish beef to the U.S. soldiers at Fort Stanton.

Coughlin had made a deal with Billy the Kid to buy all the steers he could steal in the Texas Panhandle and deliver to him in Tularosa.

In January 1880, the Kid added another notch on the handle of his pistol as a man-killer.

He and a crowd of the Chisholm cowboys were celebrating in Bob Hargroves' saloon in Fort Sumner.

He held a grudge against the Kid for the killing of his friend, Jimmy Carlyle.

Otherwise, there was no enmity between them.

In the latter part of April, cowboy Charlie Wall had four Mexicans helping him irrigate an alfalfa field above the Mexican village of Tularosa on Tularosa River.

So, again, this is in Ruidoso, New Mexico, in the Forest Lawn Cemetery.

That's in Lincoln County, which is near Tula Rosa, which is near Holloman Air Force Base and White Sands.

So, not really close to an interstate.

It's kind of halfway between Albuquerque and Juarez, Mexico.
