On the 1st of September, Welsia started a five-month trial with the city of Tsukuba and Alfresa.

Welsia is one of Japan's biggest drugstore operators.

And today it's part of the largest Surruha group.

The chemistry prize went to Leonard Chavez, a former Nagoya University professor, Koichiro Yagi, a Canadian citizen born to Japanese parents, and their colleagues for a 2016 study showing that proteins produced by viviparous cockroaches contain about three times the energy of cow's milk.

Yagi, then at the University of Toronto, and his colleagues extracted the milk for Chavez to analyze its structure using X-rays at the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization, KHIA, in Tsukuba, Ibarki Prefecture.

Their study found that the insects, which raise their young inside their bodies rather than laying eggs, produce highly calorie-dense milk proteins.

The finding drew international attention.

It was designed by the famed church architect Yosuke Tetsukawa .

As the number of foreign students increases on campus, we also want Japanese students to mingle with them, be inspired by them and use the opportunity to foster their international mindsets, said Yoshihiko Takenaka, University of Tsukuba vice president.

The education ministry program is allowing the change at three universities with faculties and departments that are considered to be internationally competitive.

They are the University of Tsukuba, Tohoku University and Hiroshima University.

Seven faculties at Tsukuba are on the list, including the University School of Humanities and Culture, the School of Social and International Studies, the School of Human Sciences, the School of Life and Environmental Sciences, the School of Physical Education, Health and Sport Sciences, and the School of Art and Design.

Part of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences is also included.

The organism's replicative core, the genetic components needed to reproduce itself, remains, making up more than half of its genome.

Takuro Nakayama, an evolutionary microbiologist at the University of Tsukuba in Japan, led the team.

Nakayama says metabolism is one of the key components of how we define life.

He says the cell's discovery challenges this by suggesting a cell can exist entirely without its own.

Nakayama says that method is incredibly powerful for capturing a broad overview, but with such data, it's often difficult to maintain the link between a sequence and the specific cell it came from, so rare organisms can be easily missed.

His team's more targeted approach involves microscopically identifying and physically isolating a single target cell from that mixed sample.

Back on shore in the Tsukuba lab, after the researchers confirmed they had C. regius, they sequenced every genome associated with that one cell.

As expected, they found DNA from its symbiotic cyanobacteria, but they found something else too.

So the, uh, the championships took place, uh, starting on August 10th and finished on the 15th of August in, uh, Tsukuba in Japan.
