They were two, four, and six when we moved down here to this little town of Tryon.

And then do you have any upcoming shows, any cool upcoming stuff that you've been working on?

Well, so yeah, I have a show up in our little town of Tryon, which is just an idyllic little spot.

We're between Asheville, North Carolina and Greenville, South Carolina.

[crowd murmuring] It is a Sunday in the spring of 1943.

At the library in Tryon, a tiny town in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, around two hundred locals are filing in to take their seats, ready for an extraordinary piano recital.

Against a backdrop of light chatter and the clearing of throats, ten-year-old Eunice Waymon, wearing a new white dress, nervously fingers the curtain at the edge of the stage.

Peering out into the crowd, she sees her mother and father sat on the front row and smiles as they spot her and wave.

[music fades] [gentle music] But how did she use her bountiful talent to become a champion of political causes? Why did she ultimately spend so much of her life in self-imposed exile from her homeland? And how much did private struggle impact her role as a public figure and her personal search for happiness? [music fades] [classical piano music] It is 1936, and in a small clapboard house in Tryon, three-year-old Eunice Waymon sits on a stool at the family's upright piano, her feet dangling high above the ground as her tiny hands jump across the keys.

Her mother, Mary Kate, a Methodist preacher, stops what she is doing to listen.

A Greenville, South Carolina native, Lila was bitten by the horse bug at age six on the back of a gentle Tennessee Walker named Sunny, and she never looked back.

She earned her BS in animal science from Clemson University in 2016, and then spent that year's show season working for a hunter-jumper veterinarian, traveling circuits to Chicago, Traverse City, and Tryon.

At Balsam Mountain, Lila oversees a growing equestrian program that includes the care of a dozen horses, boarding lessons, guided trail rides across more than 40 acres of mountain trails, and a full calendar of horse-related community events.

She's known for her passion, her warm sense of humor, and her ever-present barn dog and unofficial mascot, Deuce.

So, what do you got us getting into this weekend?

So, we're heading to Tryon, North Carolina.

They got a Velocity PBR tour over there Friday and Saturday.

And we're hauling our bulls there.

We're gathering bulls tomorrow.

It's on.

So, we'll be taking bulls to Tryon.

I think there'll be some of the PBR guys...

Oh, yeah, that's good.

That whole Landrum, Columbus, Tryon area.

Side Street Pizza is actually Tryon, North Carolina, but that's where Phil and I and our crew used to go sneak over the border because you couldn't buy beer on Sundays.

That's right.

You could drink beer on Sundays.
