Yes, that was a really interesting story because three companies sat together basically in the early 90s or mid-90s.

That was ASML and Zeiss and Trumpf.

And they had a really crazy idea that people thought was technically not feasible.

like most people.

But actually they did.

they achieved their goal and they protected their technology with tons of patents like ten thousands of patents all over the world these three players and now they have a monopoly basically no one can make computer chips with feature sizes as small as asml and size and trump can do so it really paid off and now all chip producers all over the world basically work on these machines.

No one can afford not to buy their machines, not to buy the mirrors and lenses from Zeiss and not to buy the lasers from Trumpf.

This is really a success story where a monopoly basically is formed because no one else has this technology and there's also a lot of things that are kept secret and not published in patents i think in this triumvirate basically of these three companies but a lot is patented And it's very difficult for other players to circumvent these patents because there are so many of them and they would have to invalidate all like tons of patents.

The comment was made at SEMICON Taiwan, where others in the industry also touted increased demand.

Here's Berthold Schmidt, the CTO of German laser maker Trumpf, a key supplier to ASML.

Right now, on EUV level, we are trying to triple our output within the next two years, and, uh, in areas like the plasma generators with the demand we are having, the order books, uh, that filling up, we see solid growth, and we probably also double, maybe even triple on the generator side within the next two years.
