And just complicated further, after The Dispossessed, Samuel Delaney wrote kind of a response to that in Triton, which he called an ambiguous heterotopia, which is pretty much describing the complexity that you were just describing.

So that's something, it's a dialogue which has been going on in science fiction for more than 50 years now.
