Tribe of Ephraim

And therefore, telling Moshe, you write out this song, teach it to the children of Israel, put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the B'nai Israel, against the children of Israel, as we know, and as we still are, That includes what's now called, was then the mixed multitude, now the twin kingdoms, the two kingdoms, northern and southern, Ahola and Aholaba, Israel and Judah or Judea.

The ten lost tribes, lots of names for them, Ephraim and Judah sometimes.

But bottom line is, it fits in both cases.

Let me say that again.

The general claim is, well, ultimately, right, there's just one king.

Judah is the line of the king, so it's Judah or else.

Now, if you talk and look at Scripture, you'll see that in the north, and we'll go through these details in a minute, they were generally called the kings of Ephraim.

So sometimes the northern kingdom, also being called Israel, gets called Ephraim as well, and prophetically called.

The first of the exiles to return to their property in their former towns were priests, Levites, temple servants, and other Israelites.

OK, some of the people from the tribes of Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim and Manasseh came and settled in Jerusalem.

Why in Jerusalem? What's in Jerusalem? Why would that be the place to go? But like, hey, the first ones to come back are the priests, are the Levites, are the temple servants.

Like, is this God being like, let's do we need to reestablish the foundation here? You know, one family, uh, one family that returned was that of Uthai, son of Amihud, son of Omri, son of Imri, son of Benai, a descendant of Perez, son of Judah.

They're used of the genealogical descendants of those 12 sons of Jacob, but it's also used of the territories.

We speak of the region of Ephraim, or the tribe of Dan is a term used for the region of Dan, etc.

They're geographical terms.

It's sort of like saying a California.

For the northern kingdom, Israel, their capital city is Samaria.

The dominant tribe is Ephraim.

And the king that will be relevant to our discussion is Pekah, the son of Remaliah.

In Judah, there's a series of Davidic kings.

We're talking about Ahaz, king of Judah, and Rezin, king of Syria, Pekah, son of Ramaliah, these are all people from our map, king of Israel, went up to war against Jerusalem, but could not prevail against it.

So, in context, you've got Syria and Israel coming to attack Judah.

And it was told the house of David, that's Ahaz in Jerusalem, saying, Syria is confederate with Ephraim.

Now, wait a minute, I'm confused.
