She, she watches the show?" She's like, "Yeah, I w- I, I watch, I w- I watch what you guys are doing." We were like, [laughs] "Oh my God, this is ridiculous."
22:44
Well, I remember the first time Destiny's Child came over.
22:47
Um, and they may have had just a few specialist radio show interviews and that was probably it.
22:54
You know, maybe one slight TV appearance.
22:56
No one really knew who they were.
22:57
No one really had to care.
22:59
Another girl band.

19 MINS LATER

42:11
Yeah, I, I still feel as though we've got a long way to go.
36:30
And
36:31
that's when I kind of started family history, trying a little bit, do a little more research.
36:34
And sure enough, the majority of my extended family.
36:39
through my grandfather and my cousins and stuff.
36:41
We're all members of, there's an association for signers or descendants of signers of the Declaration of Independence.
36:47
And in order to get into that, you have to prove your lineage, which is kind of exciting.
36:51
And what that did is that spurred on me and that conversation with my AP government teacher that there's something bigger to this than just, oh, I'm learning about history.
39:02
And I wonder how you reflect on that, given sort of where we are right now.
44:38
[laughs]
44:39
And if I didn't have that choir come out, I would've burst into tears.
44:41
I think Sir David Attenborough was here that day, and I think I was thinking, "God, Sir David Attenborough's here.
44:46
Wow." You know? I was like, it was just a great day, and I, it was, it was ack- That, that first award was acknowledgement of the music more than anything else, 'cause I felt that, you know, I represent R&B, you know, especially at that time, and I just felt that we...
44:59
No one's recognizing us, you know what I mean? It wasn't...
45:01
I just felt like it, this is the, um, the forgotten music for us.
45:05
And then all of a sudden I won that, and I thought, "Wow.
45:31
Yeah.
4:58
Exactly.
4:59
No, I'm game for it.
5:01
Yeah, you and I could riff for a long time.
5:03
But for me, having so many conversations with so many bright minds, once again, I mean, I get to talk to the most brilliant minds in fundraising.
5:13
All the time.
5:14
Like it's pretty wild and pretty, pretty cool what we've been able to trip and fall and find ourselves at.
5:18
But recency bias is what I mean by that with all these conversations that are so current.

13 MINS LATER

18:16
I mean, I get pushed under eye cream on social media 20,000 times a day, I might as well remind myself that a quick walk is valuable five, you know? So I feel like we have to remember too that like the volume of messages that we're getting to distract us, like we have to match at the very least match that volume with reminding ourselves of the other point or it is a losing battle, right? We can't just tell ourselves something nice once And beat ourselves up the rest of the time and be like, why didn't it stick? That positive self-talk thing I did that one time.
