Trevor Benjamin

But unfortunately, when the chance arrived, he was never, or very, very rarely, able to convert it.

So it wasn't like he just, like Trevor Benjamin, who frankly never got a shot away because he just didn't know where to go.

You know, this guy was in the right place at the right time.

Like I say, three one-on-ones in one game.

A goal that was scored as a rarity.

Trevor Benjamin, who never scored, but scored the goal.

And I never went in the dressing room or saw the manager after the game.

I always thought it's best not to because both of you are far too wound up emotionally.

I've had people who have played that one game for Liverpool and so have come in here and that's always the overarching thing that people you'd think people might take the mic or whatever but like every single those 74,000 people in that stadium would happily throw places with you in that second so you can never take that away from yourself and then were you nervous where did you feel out of place or as you say did you think that this is hard this is normal now no I was nervous to be honest and it

was but weeks afterwards there was jokes because we had a few lads like Steve Guppy who was in the England squad back then Trevor Benjamin who they paid a million quid for from Cambridge back then who was I think, who else? There was a couple more lads on the bench who, realistically, I thought would have gone on before me.

So, obviously, I'm there, being out warmed up, come back in, Peter Taylor turns around, was like, are you fucking ready? I'm like...

looking around and he's like they're like have a chew a chew quickly put my shin pads on and then for a couple of weeks afterwards Guppy and a few of the other lads were like oh your face was priceless just because I didn't expect to come on I thought I've been there for five or six weeks I thought I'm just travelling with the squad get a bit of experience and then there I was just flung on before them so lucky for me my mum, my dad and my uncle were at the game so they obviously seen which to this day is probably one of the highlights of my career
