i think it's more about trent thomas and just maybe not necessarily what he does he changes the passing game or it's radically different i think i wondered how much 12 personnel tennessee would run this year with the confidence and that they have in the receivers and kind of the question marks behind eason davis especially when you look at the son brame who i think we all would have pointed to as number two not really a blocking tight end um Trent Thomas, obviously that, and obviously I think they're very comfortable with him, and he went out there, and Josh Seifel mentioned that he had a couple of the busts in the run game that hurt them early, but I think there's confidence in him.

He looked competent catching the football.

I mean, who had Faison Brandon's first third-down completion of the season going to Trent Thomas back two months ago? So I think maybe not that he's just somebody that's radically different, but he looked solid and I think that gives Tennessee the option to play more 12 personnel like they kind of have previous two years that I was uncertain how much they would be able to go to that this year just given the personnel they have at the spot

and Mike they might have to play more 12 personnel with the injury to Joe Kim Dotson the backup slot receiver position is really I mean, Braylon Staley may play every snap in a game, but if he needs a blow, I mean, where are you with Tyreek King on the road on a Saturday night? Or if he needs to come out of the game, are you back into two tight end stuff? So Trent Thomas becomes really important, and they've got to figure out where Deshaun Bray is right now.

That's a guy that had all the early preseason buzz, but he didn't have a great first scrimmage, and then he didn't have a target in week one.

I'm curious to see where he factors into this team offensively.

But I thought that flash was pretty impressive.

One guy somewhere on that offensive line doesn't do his job, which leads to a negative play or a short yardage gain instead of being able to pop a run.

The, uh, Trent Thomas, for example.

He whiffs on a block, tackle for loss.

He seals his block, Javen Gordon goes for 25 yards.

Yeah, it certainly, it's not just the offensive line, it's the tight ends.

I mean, Josh Heupel mentioned that as well, and I, I agree.

I mean, this, it's always the tight ends, you know, whether it's Ethan Davis, Trent Thomas, as you mentioned right there.

If it's, you know, Dasan Bran, the tight ends have a big focal, uh, a big part of that run game.

So, um, yeah, it, uh...

Yesterday, a good group, Trent Thomas, Ken Lee, uh, DeShawn Bishop along with Anthony Poindexter and, and Kelsey Pope.

Uh, not the longest of interviews with those guys.

It was one of the shorter sessions we've seen.

He'll get better as the season goes along.

You mentioned what the front office has done, and we highlighted last year that as the season went on, you saw significant contributions, not only from last year's crop of rookies, but also from the draft class before, now that a couple players have had the chance to get healthy.

So I'm curious, is there anybody out of this group of newcomers, when I say either draft picks or free agents that haven't played NFL football before, that have caught your eye in camp?

Yes, um, and it's a great point because, John, this is how you build a championship-level football team.

That's why he kept throwing those hitches there to begin the game because they were just giving it to him, and that really allowed him to kind of get in and get a feel for the game.

The check down to Trent Thomas on third down to move the sticks I thought was a big moment of growth there for a young quarterback making his first true start.

Based on Brandon was good last week against Furman.

Now how good can he be against a team with a pulse? on the road in front of a hostile environment.
