And they did have a relationship pre-existing, and they go outside the box and get a guy like Trent Bray, which I don't really think there was a pre-existing relationship between Kirby and Trent.

So I don't know if it maybe even has to do with the salary pool of the assistants.

I'm sure Trent Bray probably commanded a pretty decent salary.

I think he was pretty sought after.

So I don't know the inside outs of that, of it maybe had to do with the assistant pool salary.

You take your moral victory and roll it up and cram it.

As we've been stating here on the program, and I know it felt really bad for Oregon State fans for a long time, particularly with the whole changeover of the Pac-12 and the Trent Bray thing, but we've been saying...

And we're developing some depth, honestly, of some players that are getting in the games.

And, you know, I'm hoping it'll stand throughout the season, right? But, you know, I love Trent Bray as a coordinator, but I do remember some games where he just got blown out.

I mean, against the Ducks, he could never do anything.

We look like we shouldn't even be on the field.

DeMond Williams improved as the game went on.

So I think in a lot of ways, it was kind of what we thought, at least I thought going in, because there were so many unknowns with Washington State's defense, with Trent Bray.

Yes, you can go back and see schematically what he was trying to do, philosophically what he was trying to do at places like Oregon State, for instance, but they had brand-new personnel.

Scott mentioned it.

If you lose to Oregon State, that will probably certainly do it for you if you don't win the Big 12.

And Trent Bray was not building a believer in Beavetown.

Maybe Jamarcus Shepard does.

So I think the fact that he knows offense, or more importantly, knows wide receivers, knows how to recruit, is from that region.

It just didn't feel like there were any holes.

But, you know, there's a couple areas you could point to that you could say, well, you know, Trent Bray, he was an excellent defensive coordinator at Oregon State.

He was the reason why Jonathan Smith was able to get hired, really, at Michigan State.

Led the Beavers to a couple top 10, top 15, 25 defenses nationally.

They're another one of those teams that just feels like it's just been taken over by the portal, was rebuilding a ton.

But that one was a little bit closer than I was expecting.

But then again, it's a rivalry game.
