Tremors 2: Aftershocks

I haven't seen anybody say that they like Tremors, or I guess very often.

I have never seen anybody say that they like Tremors 2.

And I'm like, you know what?

I was hoping that that was going to be the response because I literally think After our second episode, when we did Tremors 2, Adrian and I were talking and I was like, man, I can't wait since Kalen's watching these with you, like until you guys get to four.

Because I feel like two or the first two show like we kind of figured the third one you might be hit or miss on.

And then we figured the fourth one, you would be you'd be pretty high up there.

It's a four-parter.

So just endure through this with me.

So it would appear many of Burt Gummer's philosophies and tactics come from Blackhand Kelly and were handed down from Hiram to Burt's grandfather in then his father in both Tremors and Tremors 2 plus future sequels Burt often tells people that it is wise to always be prepared and never let one's guard down in the mewling station when Hiram was trying to sleep with his back to the door Kelly turns him around and advises him you can't see the door if you're facing that way always be prepared so that is my first one In the first Tremors, Nancy and Nestor suggest they wait for the police or National Guard to arrive and deal with the Graboids.

Bert replies that they can't afford to wait and that defending their town and homes is something they need to do themselves.

They had just done Tremors, or maybe this was around the same time they did Tremors.

They had been part of Stan Winston's team on Aliens, so they knew... intimately the material.

And when you bring up the CGI aspect, Grady, Eric, the confrontation with Ripley and the bovine alien in the hospital area, the first shot, it stands out today like, whoa, CGI.

But as soon as it cuts to the close-up, where it's live action, it works.

Those things were a little less apparent in 1992 When the film came out, I remember interviewing Phil Tippett for Animoto Magazine when he was working on Tremors 2.

And at that time, CGI was pretty new.

And Phil Tippett was doing Tremors 2 because it was direct-to-video.

I just, we watched, I watched Tremors 1 today.

JD watched Tremors 2 today.

So Tremors 3 Back to Perfection is a 2001 direct-to-video horror monster film directed by Brent Maddock and is the third installment in the Tremors series featuring the subterranean worm creatures dubbed Graboids.

It is of course a sequel to Tremors 2 Aftershocks and Michael Gross, Charlotte Stewart, Ariana Richards, Tony Gennaro, and Robert Jane reprise their roles from the first film.

In Tremors 3, some of the Graboids were created using CGI, which was the first time a Tremors film had used CGI to make a Graboid.

The Graboids seen in the previous film were full-size puppets and one-quarter scale miniatures.

But...

Tremors 3 did have a budget of $6 million in 2001, which in 2026 would be about $11.3 million budget and some change.

So not a terrible... number but what this is what i thought about is tremors 2 had a four million dollar budget which in 2026 would be about eight and a half million dollars and even the second one looked way better than this the i think that the lighting the choreography the everything that is everything about the two films before this one looked better and this one pretty much had the largest budget of the three.

So it, that's one of the reasons I knocked this film.

In the decades since its release, Tremors has received largely favorable retrospective reviews and has appeared on several rankings of the best monster films of all time and the top horror films of the 1990s.

The film's later popularity led to a long-running franchise comprising of six direct-to-video sequels, Tremors 2 Aftershocks from 1996, Tremors 3 Back to Perfection from 2001, Tremors 4 The Legend Begins in 2004, Tremors 5 Bloodlines in 2015, Tremors A Cold Day in Hell 2018, and Tremors Shrieker Island in 2020, and a television series with Gross serving as the franchise's mainstay.

A TV series reboot of Tremors starring Bacon did not go beyond the pilot stage.

In 2025, Underwood, Maddox, and Wilson regained the rights to the original Tremors script and began discussing a new sequel that would return to perfection.

It's being published.

All right, before we get out of here, as we've said quite a few times during this, Tremors was not a box office success, but did have huge success at the home video VHS, which led to a direct sequel, Tremors 2 Aftershocks, released April 9th, 1996 to home video.

And I'll tell you right now, Adrian, that was my favorite growing up.
