Treasure Island

Was there a Treasure Island theme about it?

Oh, no, not a theme as such, but it was just every course related back to Samoa.

I assume everything came from Treasure Island or like there was some Victorian who was like, I'm going to write about pirates and like everything they wrote.

Everyone's like, that's what pirates were like.

So I actually thought the black spot was a real thing, but it turns out it is Treasure Island.

That is the first recorded instance that people can find of the actual black spot.

um in it it gets uh handed to i think it's like it's in one of the first i was actually reading it earlier but i've left the book in the other room i wanted to see if i was gonna read the description of it but um there isn't actually a neat description of it anywhere but um yeah and so but someone gets handed it in like chapter three it's like a spot on a piece of paper or something yeah yeah and the idea is he was so scared to receive the black spot that he just dies um but it's that because it's not actually and then at the end they hand it to long john silver um who doesn't die spoilers um at least he doesn't die because of the spot i don't know if he does die at the end of actually i don't anyway it doesn't matter um he might die he might not um but he's

And that does mean death.

That is like, oh man, you will die.

yeah he was a he was a presence and the reason he may have gone by the name of james curry might have been in honor of his father his father was royal navy chaplain james curry who sadly passed away at the age of 49 in 1958 after complications of pneumonia so possibly a homage to his father

I think as well, and we'll get there, but there is a speech that he gives to, in Treasure Island, that he gives to...

Everybody, every Robert Louis Stevenson fan is shouting at us now.

But the young lad in the movie, he gives him a speech about how he lost his dad when he was about eight years old.

And he said that that was the only improvised line that he made in the whole of the Treasure Island film.

And it was something he could draw from to compare himself to the character.
