Trea Turner

It's six to four, but the Phillies keep pecking away.

They get a run in the fifth on a Trea Turner home run.

That makes it six to five, and then they take advantage of the Houston bullpen in the sixth inning.

And they did this against, by the way, starter Hunter Brown, who is one of the better starters in the American League.

Kyle Schwarber establishing himself as a future Hall of Famer.

Um, but this, again, this really was a great team effort.

Um, you had in the, um, in that third inning, you had, uh, a Trea Turner base hit that scored a run.

You had Bryce Harper knocking in two with a single, and you had Luis Urias, who has struggled with runners in scoring position since coming to Philadelphia.

The lack of consistency concerns me.

Trea Turner in the two hole.

Like, again-

Yeah

But when he goes the opposite field for a homer the other night-

Yeah

... then he's finding the gaps, like, I'm like, "Okay, that's the Trea Turner that I've been used to." And even, again, loyal listeners know, like, what happened to the Trea Turner that was so feared when he was on the Dodgers, and even on the Nationals?

Yeah.

Yeah, he was trending a lot online last night because obviously when you hit a game-winning grand slam in that scenario.

And huge shout-out to Trea Turner for, for making that a game, uh, there in the s- was that the sixth?

Turner was the biggest storyline of the game to me.

Tor- Turner was awesome last night.

We, we've peed on the guy's shoulder enough this year that when he has a game like that, let's hope it can, uh, get the momentum going here over the next two weeks and take them into the playoffs on a high note.

But he was, he was huge last night.

Yeah, I mean, so two big hits from Trea Turner, both of them promising signs because he went the other way.

Trea Turner never goes the other way.

Uh, the, the tie gets broken by a two-run home run.

You get one back from a home run from Trea Turner, and then you have a [smacks lips] bases loaded situation there, uh, by Kyle Schwarber.

Gets up there with the bases loaded.

He works a 3-2 count and gets a sweeper that just hangs up enough for the Gor- uh, the great Schwar-bian to put the barrel of the bat way down in the zone, ripping through with one arm, and Schwar blasts it off the facing of the second deck in right field 408 feet for a kind of grand slam that says, "Enough messing around.

Phillies go down four-nothing in the third inning, only to respond to make it a four-four game in the bottom of the third inning with their own four-run rally there.

Then in the fourth inning, unfortunately, Cam Smith takes Christopher Sanchez deep on a two-run home run, makes it a six-four advantage in favor of the Astros.

Fifth inning, Trea Turner steps up there.

It's his 19th solo home run of the season.

Before that, you saw José Alvarado go out there, and he gave you some heart palpitations that maybe he would be the one to blow it.

Well, he ended up getting out of a jam thanks to a line drive to Trea Turner.

They were able to get the, uh, double play there, um, doubled off of, uh, Altuve.

No, it wasn't Altuve.

Now, he ended up getting Justin Crawford to thir- to second on a passed ball.

So in theory, if he steals second base and March still strikes out, that passed ball would actually put him on third with one out.

Now, unfortunately, what doesn't help the argument there is that Kyle Schwarber struck out, and then Trea Turner struck out.

Both working full counts, both going down swinging.

Don't, don't expect it.

There will not be some random call up and he'll be playing shortstop over Trea Turner in the first round of the postseason.

That would be insane.

Uh, we're talking like, um, [lip smacks] Rookie of the Year type stuff.

He's not coming up.

But it is big for the future because Alec Bohm is on the final year of his team control.

Trea Turner, there's been talks all year about a move from shortstop for him.

Bryson Stott, we'll see what his future holds.

Listen, two things on Phillies.

Number one, seeing Turner hit a two-run homer for the first time, uh, any homer in the first time in over a month is, is, is exciting.

I'm hoping that, that bat stays hot, 'cause that can change a lot for the Phillies right now, 'cause he hasn't been hot in quite some time.
