If you go look at James Webb's horoscope and see just the history of it, to see like what paper trail they've already put together, you'll see that they've pointed that at TRAPPIST-1 dozens of times over the last couple of years.

And they keep like just saying certain things about possible habitable planets in Trappist-1 and Trappist-6 and Trappist-1D and Trappist-1E.

I read a lot of articles about it and I just shake my head.

I'm like, man, all that is is just precursor fodder.

Now, we can be confident that Jupiter-sized planets do correlate with metallicity, but again, it's unclear whether the presence or absence of Jupiter-like planets has any bearing on the existence of temperate rocky Earths.

Just look at TRAPPIST-1e for a counterexample.

As you can tell there's a lot we still don't know about exoplanets and we should just be honest about that.

There is one other effect though remember, planet retention and here I do have more confidence that the effect is real although Full disclosure, I am undoubtedly biased because this work was published by my own research team, the Cool Worlds Lab, led by Dr. Moira McTeer.
