Transworld Snowboarding

I went and went back to Palomar College.

I was paying my own way through college, and so I went to Palomar, uh, couple years, got my AA, and then transferred to San Diego State, journalism, minored in outdoor recreation, and ultimately got a job at Transworld Snowboarding magazine up in Oceanside.

Oh, hell yeah.

Yeah, 'cause Transworld was the biggest snowboarding magazine in the world.

Um, and the editorial director was Kevin Kaneer, who was, like, this old school surfer.

Long, I think his hair was still blonde at that point.

[laughs] And, and they gave me this list of guys, and they had, um, a trade publication called Transworld Snowboarding Business.

And they said, "We want you to interview all of these guys." And they put on, the names on there were, like, Tom Sims, um, Jake Burton Carpenter-

So he's been on the journey for the whole time, making mags.

And we talked to Fran Richards, one of Transworld Snowboarding's first employees, who worked at Transworld for multiple decades on the marketing and sales side.

And then we talked to Bud Fawcett, who's basically been going off... personal photo consultant and has been so gracious in sharing some of those super early, early iconic images of early snowboarding.

Bud Fawcett is one of the original snowboard photographers and an icon in our scene.

And then we talked to Aaron Draplin, you know, art director of Snowboarder Mag before he became famous, like this famous graphic designer slinging thick lines and being Draplin, doing Draplinisms everywhere.

Finally, we are super excited to bring on Nick Hamilton, my old friend and partner in crime at Transworld Snowboarding Magazine.

We're bringing him in at the end of the show as our live human expert.
