So I had another meeting at one point and I had them meet and I had someone else moderate.

that meeting and almost everyone came out of that meeting going, Pastor, you can't miss another meeting because that was terrible.

And it was because they're all over the place.

So the framework that I try to provide is not to say, here's some prescriptive way to think about AI, but it's instead to ask questions about AI and to get them to start thinking about it.

You know, I've spent a good amount of time speaking with Max Moore.

Max Moore is the reason that we use the word transhumanism.

It was initially, by the way, it was first coined by Teilhard de Chardin and then picked up by Julian Huxley in his 2000, I'm sorry, 1956 essay, Transhumanism.

But Max Moore is very much of a – he is in no way, shape, or form an advocate for mass surveillance or a global system or even large-scale governmental systems.

He's still very much a libertarian of the late 90s variety, very much pro-freedom.

Sam Altman of OpenAI has written that humans will be the biological bootloader for digital intelligence that will either merge with technology or fade into an evolutionary tree branch.

When I wrote about people believing computers have a soul, I also predicted they would begin talking about rights for computers.

One of the religious experts brought into the AI world for discussion warned that these technologists were relating to AI like a conscious being.

You talked about transhumanism.

That is what a lot of it is rooted in.

Transhumanism is this idea that we can be shaped as a species to be something that is the next thing after humanity.

And there's this whole, there's all, I'm going to give you another, another reference.

There's this great paper by Timnit Gebru and Emil Torres.

And, uh, uh, but like, like-

Transhumanism.

Yeah.

Well, dude, as soon as I-

It was just, but that idea of like, you know, taking parts of your body and putting it somewhere else so that it can like live on or whatever, like-

Transhumanism, yeah.

Yeah.

[laughs]

But.

Transhumanism, I mean, really isn't a new idea.

If you go back to Genesis 3, we're looking at this idea of the oldest temptation in human history is to be dressed in technological clothing.

It was the temptation in the garden that took Eve to the level where she could go and be beyond her humanity that God created her in.

They're n- They're not gonna come out and tell you, but I'm gonna tell you that that's what transhumanism means because Julian Huxley wrote, "I believe in transhumanism.

Once there are enough people who can truly say that, the human species will be on the threshold of a new kind of existence, as different from ours as ours is from that of Peking Man.

It will at last be consciously fulfilling its real destiny." That's from his essay "Transhumanism" in 1957 when he coined that term to rebrand eugenics because it had a ton of baggage from all the murdering that they were doing, and he said, "It's now gonna be called transhumanism.

Doesn't that sound nice?" So that's kind of an important distinction I think people need to make moving forward, 'cause they're gonna get hung up on this word and they're gonna assume that it means one thing, uh, but in actuality, according to these people, it means something very different.
