Sandro FalceHOST

It's not like a, it's not like a, what's a movie that we've done that's trying to do way-
Zach AdamsHOST
11:56
Transformers Five.
Zach AdamsHOST
11:57
[laughs]
Sandro FalceHOST
11:57
Sure.
Jason ConcepcionHOST
20:23
Michael Bay is in talks to return as director, and we hope he declines.
Jason ConcepcionHOST
20:27
This would be the first [laughs] Transformers movie since The Last Knight in 2017, which actively-
Rosie KnightHOST
20:33
The one, the first one that he directed
Jason ConcepcionHOST
20:35
... which he would-
Rosie KnightHOST
20:35
Since then
Jason ConcepcionHOST
20:35
... say, excuse me, since the, The Dark Knight, which is the last Transformer movie that he directed, which made my eyeballs hemorrhage.
Jason ConcepcionHOST
20:42
Um, John Fuchs' Wonder Woman-
Rosie KnightHOST
20:43
Yes, remember that's the one with Harriet Tubman, and she's helping-
Brian KilbyHOST
14:13
If you missed, if y- if you're not like me and didn't buy 15 Allicons when they came out like, what, six years ago, um, you can get another one, 'cause that's being reissued.
Brian KilbyHOST
14:23
Uh, Leader Last Knight Megatron.
Brian KilbyHOST
14:26
Is that new?
ChrisPANELIST
14:27
Uh, we knew about before, but I...
Brian KilbyHOST
18:26
Globally, probably.
MattPANELIST
18:27
Yeah.
Brian KilbyHOST
18:27
Uh, and then, I mean, Age of Extinction did really well in China, right? Um, but then, like, Last Knight tanked.
Brian KilbyHOST
18:34
T- comparatively tanked.
Caleb SuggsHOST
8:44
Yeah.
Ernie FergusonHOST
8:44
The Last Knight and Age of Extinction.
Ernie FergusonHOST
8:46
No, that's Michael Bay's, sorry.
Ernie FergusonHOST
8:47
That's Michael Bay's last two, sorry.
speaker_3HOST
15:12
Exactly.
speaker_3HOST
15:13
If a standalone movie fails, the studio takes a hit.
speaker_3HOST
15:16
If a crossover fails, you have actively damaged two of your most valuable properties simultaneously.
speaker_4HOST
15:22
Oh, wow, I didn't think of it like that.
speaker_3HOST
15:23
A merged corporation carrying billions in debt cannot stomach that vulnerability.
speaker_4HOST
15:27
So they canceled it.
speaker_3HOST
15:29
And instead they are pivoting to a standalone G.I. Joe film in collaboration with Danny McBride, which is just a wild sentence to read.
speaker_4HOST
15:36
It's jarring, but economically brilliant.
John RochaHOST
8:15
Then, of course, Bay went on to do Dark of the Moon and Age of Extinction.
John RochaHOST
8:19
And then The Last Knight, which is really where he kind of burnt out.
John RochaHOST
8:22
And the audience was kind of burnt out on him.
John RochaHOST
8:23
So do you think... after although it was good as michael said didn't do that well box office wise overall rise of the beast kind of underperformed transformers one you could argue marketing whatever it didn't catch on by the way that's i think it's coming to netflix very soon uh and part of the partnership that'll be on there as well in case you guys have that but shannon your thoughts on this will this work out is this the right time or is this like bringing back the old players to play on the team and is this michael jordan on the wizards is this is this is this is not gonna work out what are your thoughts on this
Jay Scotty St. ClairPANELIST
54:18
The, the critical reception to them, like, they were never critical darlings, but fans seemed to like them.
Jay Scotty St. ClairPANELIST
54:23
But even towards, like, those last couple of ones, like The Last Knight, uh, Age of Extinction, like, I think that's where people started to kinda be like, "Eh, I don't know how good these actually are." Uh, but there, there's...
Jay Scotty St. ClairPANELIST
54:34
You can't argue the fact that those first three, uh, in terms of the spectacle and how financial, financially viable they were, that's why Transformers hasn't gone anywhere.
Jay Scotty St. ClairPANELIST
54:45
Um, and it makes sense.
John CampeaHOST
51:20
Like they just can't afford a big, huge miss, right? Which of course, if you need to take a big swing, nothing says that better.
John CampeaHOST
51:27
Nothing more guaranteed than getting Michael Bay to come back to direct a Transformers movie.
John CampeaHOST
51:31
Oh, nice transition.
John CampeaHOST
51:33
I digress because we're actually going to get to that story.

18 MINS LATER

John CampeaHOST
69:27
So there are 15 more million dollars in the hole today.
John CampeaHOST
69:29
So happy birthday.
John CampeaHOST
69:31
So what is David Ellison going to do to try to generate the billions and billions and billions and billions and billions of dollars that they need to generate? to make themselves some money and to get themselves out of this hole? Well, obviously the answer is get Michael Bay and make more Transformers movies.
John CampeaHOST
69:55
Deadline is reporting today.
Nick JimenezHOST
41:45
Oh.
Scott CarelliHOST
41:45
[laughs] They would go on to write, they would not write another, uh, it looks like another s- uh, uh, screenplay that would be produced until 2017 with Transformers: The Last Knight.
Nick JimenezHOST
42:00
Jeez Louise, really?
Scott CarelliHOST
42:02
Yep, and then two years later, Men in Black International.
BrianHOST
23:03
And this is a man who is so hit or miss when it comes to writing.
BrianHOST
23:08
Like this is a guy who wrote The absolute crap that is Batman and Robin, the Lost in Space adaptation, the Da Vinci Code, the Divergent series Insurgent, the Fifth Wave, Transformers The Last Knight, the Dark Tower, the first two seasons of Star Trek Picard.
BrianHOST
23:32
um just lots of really bad stuff while at the same time writing some wonderful things like a beautiful mind cinderella man i actually really like the movie angels and demons i think it's pretty good doing 19 episodes of the show fringe uh winter's tale was rather well received rather well received um He did the third season of Star Trek Picard, which was fantastic.
BrianHOST
23:59
He's done Star Trek Strange New Worlds, which is a great return to form for the thing.
