Transferable skill

So I need to adapt.

What are my transferable skills from wrestling into anything else? And obviously I'm on TV.

So I've only got TV contacts or people I can reach out to agents.

Auditions.

bro.

What does that do? Well, graphic design, and you've now worked for other companies as well.

Oh, yeah, transferable skills.

Lead generation.

I loved it as well, did really well, but it wasn't like that same passion that I had for when I was in tourism.

So whilst I was doing that role in employment consultancy, I started doing a lot of research, upskilling, professional development, and I started pinpointing all of my transferable skills.

And that's where I landed on tech project management.

So digital project management and all of that.

Yeah.

I think it's interesting because I speak to so many university graduates or people who are looking to change career paths or whatever it is.

And I think what they really failed to do is what you said before was you actually took the time to actually sit down and think about what are the transferable skills that I have.

And I always say that to people.

composure dealing with the food and a food industry is hard job and it translates to something like working in politics where you deal with constituents and so I think that's been part of how I've been able to overcome imposter syndrome too and I think be of service to people who probably have similar situations that they deal with a feeling like they're not good enough by being like, you have transferable skills.

On paper, someone won't just look at you and say, I'm going to hire you to be a communications person, but have no communications background, but you're a server.

So you do have to communicate.

I'll ask it, and if you feel like you've said enough, we can move on.

Some philosophy instructors emphasize philosophical content, and others emphasize transferable skills.

And then others, more philosophy as a way of life.

And the way you've been talking about that, that way of life stuff has been dispositions as the sort of third category.

It's going to be jobs, right? And then you're going to finish that job and you're going to go to the next one.

And so hence, you gained skill set and then you'll gain the next skill set, but you're going to be accountable to yourself.

express, explain, pitch yourself to get your next job right through being able to explain those transferable skills.

And I've seen it time and time again, where, for example, like one of the pivoters that was actually this person was in the Netherlands.

Genuine initial enthusiasm followed by gradual, unremarkable erosion as ordinary life reasserts its usual demands.

Learning to notice this pattern honestly and to build anchors durable enough to survive it is itself a genuinely transferable skill, considerably more valuable than any single insight it happens to be applied to first.

A brief practical summary is worth offering at this point, gathering together the several threads tonight's teaching has traced through several different demonstrations.

Acknowledge honestly that knowing this principle once was never going to be enough on its own.

I think that when you are in a position where you are forced to make a change and a pivot you resent it you're upset about it you have to go through all that grieving process and that's that's really the only thing that makes it any different because when it comes down to it all you're doing when you pivot is taking something you do one place and doing it someplace else It's the transferable skills we talk about all the time.

Like, what did you do here that now applies here? Right.

And getting creative about that and really looking, boiling things down to their essence and saying, this is the kernel, the raw truth here.

And for people who might feel their previous experience doesn't fit the charity sector, what would you say about transferable skills and career change?

Um, that's really interesting.

Um, I absolutely love it.
