Trans Canada Trail

So that was great.

Our neighbors tried to escape on the Trans-Canada Trail and they had to wait for individual trees to burn so that they could pass.

So they did not have a clear evacuation route.

You know, they stayed a lot longer and tried to get out at a hairier time than Carmen and my parents did.

So that's one thing that's really cool.

If we dive down to the harbor front, We have what's called the Martin Goodman Trail, which is part of the Trans-Canada Trail.

And Trans-Canada Trail is a trail that actually goes across Canada.

And the Martin Goodman Trail hugs Lake Ontario shoreline all the way from the beaches, which is like all the way in the east, all the way to Etobicoke, which is all the way in the west.

And it's going right along the coast of the Ontario Lake.

This is for the major park just a little bit north of here along Abbott Street, just north of the Trans-Canada Trail between Abbott Street and Rouncy a massive new park that's going to be built in the next few years.

Pawnee Rock, Walnut, Coon, Ash, and Cow Creeks were mute witnesses of a score or more battles that reddened the blossoming prairie in springtime, and the slopes of the Pawnee, Heath's Branch, and Buckner's were resonant with the yell of the Kiowa and Cheyenne, who under the pale moonlight held their hideous saturnalia of butchery.

To protect the trains on their weary route through the desert, as the whole of this region was then termed and confidently believed by the world to be, troops were stationed, a mere handful, relatively, at intervals on the Great Trail to escort the freighters and the United States mail over the most exposed and dangerous portions of the route.

The incident which is the subject of this sketch is as thrilling, perhaps, in its details and as marvelous in its results as any that have come down to us in the history of those memorable times.

It deals with plain facts and men who are now living, one of whom, the principal actor in the scenes to be related, is known favorably all over the state.
