Tradwife

Um, and so a lot of what Luther ends up writing about his wife is the origin point for what we would call today the cult of domesticity.

In other words, that the best thing that a wife can be is the one who brews your beer and who makes your meals, and you get home, and, you know, so this, this sort of, like, tradwife, traddy baddy stuff, um, can be traced in its origins to s- some of Luther's writings about Katharina.

Um, so some of that stays today in Protestantism in a way that, um, builds an idea of biblical womanhood that is predicated on her place in the home as the m- as, as the thing that is most beautiful for her.

Now, I say this as someone who is a stay-at-home mom, so I'm not, I'm not dogging on...

And so I'm going to be weaving a little bit of Savannah Stone and Tradwives.

Tradwives, again, they typically take this biblical sense of submit to your husband.

Don't vote, you know, like you are at the mercy and at the service of that.

So we'll put a pin on this.

This is where I think the Tradwife movement is actually on the way out.

And let me explain why.

So a couple of years ago, the Tradwives had kind of come into fashion and for better or worse, you'd have people like Ballerina Farm, Hannah Nieleman, you'd have Norah Smith that would be cooking in her kitchen, baking everything from scratch in designer couture.

And also, you're the one that said to us, come on, let's talk about trad wives.

First, I'm not gonna describe this as a marriage crisis.

I know that some conservative groups view it this way, and there's a movement underway known as Tradwife, where concerned efforts are being made to encourage women to have children, stay at home and raise them, and be totally submissive to their husband.

Okay, I'm not going there.

Second, I'm not going to compare today's marriage rates to those from 50 and 60 years ago.
