Welcome to The Stacks, a podcast about books and the people who read them.

I'm your host, Traci Thomas, and today we are joined by National Book Award finalist and best-selling author Min Jin Lee to talk about her newest book, American Hagwon.

In this sweeping novel, a Korean family is forced to relocate and rebuild after betrayal at the onset of the 1997 Asian financial crisis that upends their comfortable middle-class life.

Today we talk about Min's diasporic Korean novels, how she researches, and why she wanted to set her book in Korea, Australia, and the United States.
