Great.

So are you ever worried about the ETT tubes being in the way, any other, what are your other considerations? You make them go the way you're not going.

So if you're going to go on the

right side, you make sure that it's pointed this way and it's cuffed so that way they don't asphyxiate on a betadine.

All of the medications used in ACLS that can be administered IV push can be given IO without changing the dose or further dilution.

The same cannot be said for administration of medications via the endotracheal tube or ETT route.

In the absence of IV or IO access, some medications may be given down the ET tube.

This is not an ideal route for medication administration because only certain medications can be given down the tube, medication doses must be adjusted, some medications must be diluted, and absorption is not as rapid or complete.

Only a few ACLS medications can be given down the tube.

An easy acronym to remember the medications that can be given down the tube is NAVEL, spelled N-A-V-E-L, where N is Narcan, A is Atropine, V is Vasopressin, E is Epinephrine, and L is Lidocaine.

It is not advisable to administer ACLS medications other than these via the ETT route.

Because absorption of IV meds given down the ET tube is less effective, when administering meds via the ETT route, we need to give 2 to 2.5 times the normal dose.
