Um, what are some other sort of tips you would give to swimmers to, um, you know, reduce things like shoulder pain, for example, or neck pain?

Tracey BaumannGUEST
Um, I think i- I think the biggest thing that can help people towards understanding how what they're doing in the pool can or cannot injure them is to get really curious about anything they are doing or being told to do.

Tracey BaumannGUEST
If they can get super curious about the why and what that feels like and what it looks like in, in their body, in their joint mechanics, in their movement patterns, I think that's going to be a big way for them to s- to open the possibility to, you know, not injuring themselves or not having to just swim with pain.

Tracey BaumannGUEST
Because if we are really mindful with the positions that we put our body into, it is absolutely possible to, um, swim very, very long swims with zero pain.

Tracey BaumannGUEST
And I'll, I'll never forget, you know, a, a lot of people say, or they, you know, I, I, I've had the pleasure of working with a, a lot of marathon swimmers [clears throat] over the years, and you know, a lot...

Um, and so I was gonna ask, you know, what, what sort of advice would you give someone who, you know, for whatever reason has to spend a few months even out of the water away from their routine, exercise, friends?

before we get into that, why is it important to get the arm recovery over the water right? What's the importance of it?

Tracey BaumannGUEST
I think the arm recovery is one of the most elusive parts of the stroke to people, for people who are wanting to go and improve their swimming.

Tracey BaumannGUEST
There's not, there's a lot out of there, out there that people can use, and I don't think there's, you know, much information.

Tracey BaumannGUEST
People sort of glaze over it, like everyone's really wanting to get into their streamline or get into a really, you know, effective catch and what's going on with their legs and so on.

Tracey BaumannGUEST
So for me, it's been an interesting journey as I said this, I think before, you know, I've the opportunity to work with so many swimmers over the years and kind of use that as an, a laboratory to see the cause and effect and have the over and underwater cameras that I, you know, have in the studio here in Brisbane and back in the UK to be able to really see what is happening when, depending on what's going on with the arm recovery above the water, having a look at what's going on underneath the water and how that's affecting the whole body position and the whole body line.
