if you love the guy man if it's like spider-man's your favorite superhero and then robert downey jr is about to play dr doom and then this drops i feel like that like i have zero interest in this character but i feel like me in seventh grade would have needed this figure i'm just like oh my god what a great idea like this is so different like him with doom and oh my god that's actually kind of neat like it's one of those like if it didn't have a comic book and it was just like a toy biz creation i'd have been like that's cool i i'm like the curiosity purchase you're like this is really toy biz

also created soccer spider-man in fly fishing spider-man uh-huh

It's like the movie came out and everyone's all about that media.

So they're just like, redesign Hawkeye so he looks more like the movie.

and you got this and that's not a bad thing by the way uh it's a great modern take on him um i love the fact that this is whenever i hear it doesn't have to be what i personally want i love it when i hear oh the fans have been asking for this one it's like yes thank you start making stuff that people want instead of retreading the eighth million like this is new this is what people have wanted where's a golden retriever like the whole bit is just that is this is the direction they should be going i will say I miss the old Toy Biz thing where they actually put like a rubber band for the bowstring and you could actually shoot the arrow.

they had a, several magazine articles from the time period, and one of them was an interview with the Toy Biz designers, um, who were making the toy line at the time, and it was around the era where the, the animated series was entering its third season, and they were about to do, like, the Phoenix storyline and everything.

[lips smack] And there's a whole blurb where they are talking about how Rogue was going to be the second ever female character in the line, and they were going to base whether they would have more female characters in the line on how well that character did.

Of course.

Yep.

Yeah.

Uh, but yeah, it's an interesting little article, so if you have, if you're listening and you have access to a library, go check out the epic collection Back to School of Generation X, and there's, like, a four-page article in the back with Toy Biz, and there's a lot of cool pictures of the prototypes.

They interview the sculptor, um, they interview the head of the creative division, and there's a lot of information about, like, how they were figuring out how to do action features.

And the figure you could get is the She-Hulk done in the Fantastic Four uniform.

Actually, I just gave shade.

But Toy Biz 90s was like them answering to superpowers.

that's what got me into toy biz which got me then into marvel legends following toy biz for all that time and i've been waiting for kenner did a great 90s um superman and they all kind of like that i mean this is the what this is like what brought me to this show you know it's like this to toy biz to marvel legends to this community you know your gateway drug

Stopped in a Hogan's Beach shop.

And what do I find on the shelf? One of my white whales, a 2000 WCW Toy Biz window crashers.

I couldn't believe it when I saw it as this is extremely rare to find, let alone still in the box.

To make it even sweeter, it came straight from Hogan's storage unit too.

But like, you know, so I probably stopped like once the Marvel figures came around.

Like you said, I bet I just was all in on Toy Biz Marvel.

But G.I. Joe Extreme, for whatever reason, got me back.

I wasn't even watching the cartoon.

yeah uh so there was an interesting exclusive here that had kind of been mentioned briefly by some toy biz executives in a previous article but that was alpha flights guardian okay so finally there was an exclusive guardian figure uh for all the fans of that canadian super team uh this is interesting because you know we we just added ours to the archive here so he doesn't he gets really bleached out because he's very white but yeah he's it's a pretty solid figure uh you know i i don't know what the original pieces are that's what i'm always curious about like what was toybiz repurposing to create these like for example like we were really able to figure it out with bullseye it was just a punisher with a new head you know but like this one i'm like i wonder who is it do you have any idea just based on the top
