Torey Krug

What foundation president Bob Sweeney calls the unofficial kickoff to the hockey season.

The event brought out current players, alumni, I think Torey Krug was even there, which is kind of cool, coaching staff, uh, Special Olympics Massachusetts athletes like John Dunleavy, Chase Hurt Dog, and Tyler Legasse, continuing a charitable legacy that has raised over 80.5 million since 2003.

One of the hottest off-season topics has been whether the Bruins will name an official captain.

And this was brought up again yesterday.

if it wasn't for Torey Krug, if it wasn't for Torey Krug hitting Robert Thompson next week, he probably wouldn't be the captain at this point, so.

For that, Torey, I appreciate your service and your aching body to now-

[laughs]

And it's funny, well not like funny But, you know, he, he is a player, right, that I feel like could just really add in that veteran presence and just really mentor the young guys, right? And the Blues, obviously, I mean, they have lost certain players, like Jordan Kyrou, but they still have RT18, Holloway, Bouchy, McTavish.

So while Carlo, and it's funny, he's not gonna be playing with Torey Krug, obviously, um, but he may be with Philip Broberger, Cam Fowler, so that's kind of exciting, right? Um, he's 29 years old.

He has one more year left on his current contract.

So again, that's something that may catch the eye of Alexander Steen.

It's like, oh wait, you played for a team that literally hates this other team.

But, um, for me, you know, Carlo is one of those guys where, um, [laughs] I just have to say that he was on the opposing side of winning the Stanley Cup versus not winning the Stanley Cup, because we beat the Bruins.

And it's so funny when you think about it, like Torey Krug was on that team, now Carlo, and they end up coming to St. Louis.

I mean, it, it, you know, it only took them, it only took him at least, um, a number of years to realize that, hey, the Blues are the better organization.

[laughs] She's really excited.

I think it'll be a lot of fun, and, uh, we've had a couple guys just with Torey Krug and, and certain people, Pat Maroon, uh, who I got the honor to play with, and, uh, have just spoken so highly of all the stuff for the kids.

We're excited to take my little guy to, like, the Train Museum and then baseball game and all those things.

So it'll be a lot of fun.

... on the back end [sighs] you can teach positioning, you can teach, you know, angling and stuff like that, but you do have to have an element of, of, of, of meanness and physicality, even as an offensive defenseman.

I mean, look at Torey Krug.

Like Torey Krug was an absolute battler, right?

Does Mason have that in his game nat- Like, and if he doesn't, like can you get that if it's not natural to you?

[laughs] We don't know what to do with our hands.

... which I think you'll, you'll get us into.

Um, I feel like this kid, uh, as a college age, uh, player, much like Torey Krug, he only played a couple of games in, two or three games into last season before he had a very serious shoulder injury that canceled his entire season.

Yeah.

He's going back to Colorado College as a captain, and, uh, this will be a very interesting season for him.

I don't see that player there.

I think that Charlie McAvoy is more of a second unit guy as a power play.

Um, and, uh, and it'd be great to take that pressure off of him by bringing him a next gen Torey Krug.

To me, Max Burkholder might be that player.

That's not a contract you sign for a team that needs to, you know, hit the reset button at the time that it did.

Yeah, and the other thing I would argue too is that, uh, the way that- The Florida Panthers have been able to move off of players and move off of contracts is something that the Boston Bruins have just not done successfully enough, you know, in terms of like, "All right, we're gonna m- walk away from Torey Krug." Okay, well it's taken them five years to find that replacement, and I don't even know if they have yet, to be honest with you.

Um, and the same thing with like shedding bad contracts.

Like, they couldn't get rid of Mike Reilly, they had to buy him out.

He's gonna be it, I'm telling you.

I mean, I know we had Torey Krug, but, like, we don't have Torey Krug, so.

Um, I'm excited about him.

I'm excited to see the physicality step up.
