Torah Umadda

Okay, we don't have that much time left, Steve, but I want to ask about an important idea.

We haven't really talked at all about Torah Umadda.

And again, we don't know what Rabbi Lam would say if he were alive in 2026.

But one thing which feels very disappointing is for advocates of Torah Umadda who believe that Western culture and Western civilization has much to offer, many people, particularly after October 7th, are just so disappointed with what Western civilization has shown us, both in terms of the lack of academic rigor when it comes to things like Jews in Israel, and also in terms of its general hatred towards so many things that we hold dear that don't seem to be coming from an intellectually unbiased perspective.

So again, not knowing what he would say, but what do you think Rabbi Lam's attitude might have been given the way that the academic world in particular has been such a disappointment for so many people who believe in academic rigor and feel that the academy has simply failed in so many ways over the past three years?

So two things.

The first, it, he, you know, it, it's interesting that for all of his love of Torah Umadda and, you know, uh, scholarship and so on and so forth, he was never a big fan of the modern secular academy per se.

It's interesting, right? In other words, someone who believed in Torah Umadda obviously, but he was obviously, you know, at, you know, at, obviously he, he wasn't out there, you know, uh, promoting, you know, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, et cetera.
