And at number nine is the group that had a major comeback in 1988.

At that time, they had not hit number one on the American charts since 1966.

This was their comeback hit and their final top 40 hit, The Beach Boys at number nine on our show with Kokomo.

And it is a, well, it's not as good as the original.

You just heard Santa Maria by Tatiana, new entry at number 40 this week.

This is the chart debut for the Croatian-born Dutch singer Tatiana Simic, her one and only appearance in the top 40 and indeed the top 100.

Wow.

No other groups were doing that because you couldn't make any money doing it, us, us included.

If you, you know, covered the Top 40 you had to do disco songs and Abba or whatever was at that time in the '70s, and we weren't doing that, but we eventually built an audience because of it.

So finally, when right before we got a record deal, we were doing all original material and, you know, really cool covers of different groups, but it was all club dance kinda friendly.

And everybody says, "Wow, you guys are so lucky.

You get to do all your own stuff." It's like, well, [laughs] we didn't do, uh, Top 40, so we, you know, we weren't looked at like that.

So we were like this oddball group that came outta nowhere and that's how it happened.

Kimiki's debut single, Punker, gets to number 43.

They're fronted by a famous person and will come to them in 1997 when they break the top 40.

And I cannot wait.

Punk gets reissued itself in about a year and does make the top 40 seconds.

So we will talk about this song.

And finally, Pizza Man just missed out with a track called Hello Honky Tonks.

One of those is a song called Been Forgotten that I've had for a long time that I've always believed in and always wanted to take a shot at radio.

And so we put it out on Top 40 Radio and it got to number 61 on the chart.

We were ahead of Shaboosie for like three weeks.

I was pretty impressed with that.

Let me tell you a little story.

Everybody has a memory in my generation of being a kid and listening to top 40 radio, the boss jocks, all the new records and what was going on in the world here in DFW.

Maybe it was the mighty 1190, the mighty KLIF, the big cliff and some other stations forever.

For me, my first exposure to a big time morning radio show was the one that my parents listened to.

Now, you've been in New York, you've been in Cleveland, been in San Francisco.

What was it that brought you into my life and my family's life as our morning radio show in D.C.? When did the opportunity to come to WWDC arise?

Well, I think like a lot of guys in Top 40 Radio, I had achieved a lot of success.

I was the number one disc jockey in America when I was at KYA in Top 40 Radio.

... you know, when you, you think about the influences, Al was doing, you know, Top 40 or writing for, you know, radio, writing for AM really.
