Too Many Cooks

No, I didn't.

So the only thing I know Casper Kelly from is he did Too Many Cooks.

And Too Many Cooks, if you get the time, go home and watch it.

It's like a 13-minute long TV show intro.

Okay.

Yeah, I had seen the trailers.

I definitely had wanted to see this movie.

Um, again, having only seen Too Many Cooks, uh, I was like, "All right, well, I'm, I'm, I'm on board." I thought for the first half, I was like, "Oh, they're really gonna make us stay in this little kids' land." [laughs] I was like, "All right, that works for me." But I think the execution was excellent.

Let's talk about Buddy.

Buddy is a very cool little horror film made by the people who did Too Many Cooks.

Do you remember that from Adult Swim 10, 15 years

ago?

And then the other one that I enjoyed, and maybe this is a theme, I don't know, but there's a kind of a riff on kids shows called Buddy.

And I don't know if you're familiar with the Too Many Cooks Adult Swim short.

So the guy who directed and created that Too Many Cooks short is This is a feature that he did.

And it kind of takes place in the universe of a kid's show and the kids who were on the kid's show.

And they're kind of being kept in line by the... by the star of the show, kind of, I guess, a stand in for Barney, the dinosaur here in the US, as the case.

i only just recently watched too many cooks for the first time because i think mike mentioned it when he was on our show i have seen the scooby-doo project which is like a scooby-doo spoof of uh the blair witch project um which is also good but okay yeah a lot of adult swim stuff yeah

Other than knowing the basics, I did come into this one blind.

So I'm going to start is that our director here of Kelly did the adult swim short of too many cooks.

If you know what this is, it's definitely taking a different sitcom shows and everything and knows how to bring that to life.

And kind of playing with it, making a little bit of comedy while going dark at times, going other ways other times.

So in this one here, that's actually the character is going to be Sergey Zurazovsky is going to be the suit.

And then Keegan-Michael Key is going to be doing the voice.

So I also bring up that show of too many cooks in the kitchen because I love how absurd that one went, and this film was right there in line.

It made me laugh at how they could develop the horror was good as well.

Now, I'll note that this is the feature film debut of Casper Kelly, who wrote and directed this.

If you don't know, Casper Kelly wrote and directed a short film that went viral back in 2014 called Too Many Cooks.

It aired on Adult Swim at like 2 in the morning and then became this big online sensation.

And in fact, I love Too Many Cooks.

I've watched it probably dozens of times over the years.

I think it's utterly hilarious.

And this movie, Buddy, is kind of similar to Too Many Cooks.

In it, we've got an innocent 80s or 90s TV show going on when something horrible starts to happen.

Now, only because I teased it earlier, I'll mention one other flick I saw.

From Casper Kelly, the creator of the viral short Too Many Cooks, comes your new favorite children's television program, Buddy.

And much like the short Too Many Cooks, Buddy starts out just like you're watching a nearly 20 minute long episode of this Barney-esque kid show.

A group of brightly colored clothed kids bring a stuffed orange toy unicorn to life to sing and solve problems via song and talk to various living trash cans, talking couches, and various other peewee's playhouse type cast.

They all sing and learn, then tell Buddy they love him as they give him a hug, and the credits roll, and everything resets to start all over again.

It becomes almost a body horror kind of thing as well.

Too Many Cooks goes on a wild ride in like 13 minutes.

It absolutely does.

I rewatched it a couple weeks ago.

Yes.

Because Too Many Cooks makes you live in the awkwardness.

Yeah.

It just keeps going.
