Tony Santillan

Now, I think that could also hurt him.

Because you look at Tony Santillan.

Tony Santillan pitched a lot in 2025.

A lot.

And that caught up to him in 2026.

But when he is on, he is, you know, you hope that maybe you paid for that last year and he comes back fresh.

Because if he comes back fresh, it's a big weapon.

Yeah, he can be great, but we'll see what happens with Tony Santillan.

... going to be a pitcher anyway

... how about Tony Santillan? Could you see Tony, big Tony playing among the lines?

You could see Santillan.

All right, so which Bengal could play for the Reds?

Um, you're, you're a president without a fan club.

Yeah, I think right now we got Tony Santillan, and we're trying to...

We're, we're accepting new applications at this, at this time.

We'll have to see exactly who, who we can, um, pack the offices for next.

Um, but remember, uh, remember that, because I'm gonna talk about that a little bit more later on, that Espinal, uh, that, that comes into play later on.

All right, Tony Santillan, uh, made 1.8 in 2026.

He's up to 2.5 million is the projection for 2027, an increase of 700,000.

Tony Santillan had a sneaky terrible year.

[laughs] Like, uh, I know Mike Hart, our, our guy, uh, made a little, uh, short for Chatterbox Sports, uh, going through the Reds' best players in terms of, uh, Baseball-Reference's version of wins over replacement, and their worst.

And Tony Santillan was at -0.9.

I think he was the third worst.

He was worse than, uh, Brian Hayes.

McCambely is more of a relief option.

The bullpen is also stacked to J. Anton, Graham Ashcraft, Brock Burke, Jose Franco, Julian Garcia, Pierce Johnson, Tony Santillan.

That's eight arms for six spots.

Eight arms for six spots? That's a problem.

Welcome to another episode of the Beatline Podcast Network, where we break down every pitch, every play, and every question you have about your favorite team.

I'm Brooke, and I'm here with Tony.

Hey everyone, it's a quiet weekend in baseball for Cincinnati, but there is plenty of noise to make up for it.

We've got a full mailbag today, so let's dive right into the questions coming from you guys.

We've got questions about the roster battles.

First, Chris in Cincinnati asks, Tyler Stevenson is great, but should Jose Trevino really keep his backup role? What did we predict last time? Oh, I remember that.

Last week, Tony and I said Jose Trevino would retain his role as a veteran backup catcher for spring training due to his contract and defensive skills.

Chris wants to know if that holds up.
