Tony D'Amato

Let's go to Scott's quote.

You have quoted Tony D'Amato, played by Al Pacino.

The film is Any Given Sunday, 1999 sports drama film directed by Oliver Stone.

That's a good one.

He understood that the character required exaggeration.

Then, in any given Sunday, he delivered an unforgettable locker room speech as football coach Tony D'Amato.

The speech became widely quoted and remembered as one of his most powerful performances.

Pacino understood something important about

And Miami Sharks has this grizzled coach who's wondering if time is passing him by and he needs to change.

And that's a play by Al Pacino playing Tony D'Amato.

And he's having this kind of conflict with his quarterback position.

Big thing.

They even delayed filming four different times to try and work out a deal with the NFL because Stone felt that it needed to be as authentic as possible and just mentioning a fictional team would take you out of it.

As they were in pre-production, Stone would start casting his football epic.

For the role of Tony D'Amato, Stone talked with Robert De Niro about taking on the role.

But Stone said De Niro was asking for too much money to be in this movie.

What starts as a football story becomes a battle over leadership, money, fame, loyalty, and control.

The cast, Al Pacino as Tony D'Amato, Jamie Foxx as Willie Beeman, Dennis Quaid, Cameron Diaz, LL Cool J, James Woods, Lawrence Taylor, Matthew Modine.

And this is one of those casts where you keep seeing another recognizable face.
