Tongue River

Here in Hot Springs County, the Bobcats won their zero-week game, Trounce-Whirland.

They played Tongue River last weekend and did the same to them.

Tongue River put up a little bit more of a fight than Whirland, but unfortunately one of the Young man from Tongue River was hurt in the game.

The ambulance had to come out on the field and they got him on a board and hauled him off.

So thoughts and prayers go to that family.

Yeah, we just sent a six-man up there.

Tongue River, right? They went up and whooped up on a Canadian team.

And Tongue River's only ranked second, according to the latest YL Preps coaches and media poll.

I mean, and I think someone once told me because your brother also is well known.

Tom's well known for bringing out the wag when he was either Tongue River or or just Morehouse Ranch or whatever.

And they laugh.

I've heard people laugh saying they were like just over the hill, not very far away from headquarters or from somebody's camp.

By early June, they had reached a strength of about 400 lodges, about 3,000 people, including some 800 warriors.

While camped on the lower Tongue River early in May, the Indians discovered soldiers on the north bank of the Yellowstone opposite the mouth of the Bighorn and sent in a raiding party of about 50 men, which ran off the horses of the Crow scouts.

Later in the month, after the troops had moved farther down the Yellowstone, warriors harassed scouting and hunting parties from the military camp.

After a buffalo hunt, the Indians moved up Rosebud Creek.

Rain and mud limited his movements, but his Crow scouts under the efficient Lieutenant James H. Bradley kept watch on the valleys to the south.

Abundant signs gave notice of Sioux nearby, and the humiliating theft of the Crow scouts' ponies on May 3rd erased any lingering doubt.

On May 16th, Bradley and a reconnoitering party spotted the main Sioux and Cheyenne camp in the Tongue River Valley, and Gibbon tried without success to get his command across the bankful river to march against it.

Again, on May 27th, the scouts located the quarry, this time in Rosebud Valley, only 18 miles from Gibbon's position.

Very kind of old school.
