Tongji University

Can the two countries cooperate on AI safety, while one side is calling for more restrictions on the other side? What risks do they generally share? What obstacles stand in the way of cooperation? And perhaps most importantly, how can they build a more constructive relationship that reduces the risk of misunderstanding, miscalculation and unintended escalation? To discuss these questions, I'm delighted to welcome two guests who have been closely following China-US relations and AI governance.

Professor Jiang Tianjiao, the Associate Professor of Development Institute of Fudan University, and Professor Lu Chuanyin, the Professor and Vice Dean of School of Political Science and International Relations of Tongji University.

At their peak in the 1930s, there were 9,000 Shikumen buildings, comprising 60% of the city's total housing stock.

By one estimate from Ruan Yisan at Tongji University, more than two-thirds had been demolished.

By 1989 alone, 5.13 million square meters of Shikumen houses had already been demolished.

Then in 1992, the municipal government announced the 365 Plan, demolished 3.65 million square meters of old housing identified as decrepit.

That is on a Thursday.

And then on a Saturday, the fabulous Chinese women from Tongji, and that's the Tongji alumni from Shanghai University.

They are strutting their fabulous stuff.

And that is happening on a Saturday afternoon at one o'clock.
