He is a Kirin Cup winner after they defeated Henry Grey's New Zealand, coached, or one of the coaches is now Tommy Smith.
M

No goal in this international break for him, but quite a few minutes.
M
16:09Mikey Pentti-SmithHOST

The first one is Nando Pinneker.
K
23:01KevinHOST
And the second one, Tommy Smith, both of those selected.
K
23:04KevinHOST
So we'll introduce all five of those candidates.
K
23:07KevinHOST
Otherwise, we just have one candidate at the possible but unlikely level.
8 MINS LATER
K
31:02KevinHOST
Mind you, Yes, we were concerned about his fitness there but the fact that he was selected suggests that he was fit and actually he did sub into both of the June games, the pre-tournament friendlies there.
K
31:19KevinHOST
So Nando Pinnaker probably more of a substitute than a starter there.
K
31:25KevinHOST
Finally, we have Tommy Smith as our last central defender making the squad.
K
31:31KevinHOST
He's been with New Zealand since 2010, 56 caps and two goals for him.

You talk about some of the players, you talk about Dane Ingham coming back and you're like, wow, there's a name that you'd sort of forgotten about a little bit.
R
8:34Riccardo BallHOST
There's a team with no Crocombe, no Joe Bell, no Ryan Thomas, no Tim Payne, no Michael Boxall, no Sarpreet Singh, no Matt Garbutt, no Chris Wood, no Costa, no Tommy Smith and no Finn Sermon.
R

I mean, there's about two thirds of a squad there that you would probably expect to be there or thereabouts.
R

And, I mean, all due respect to those guys, it didn't feel like you missed too many of them in this game.

Now, uh, a player that ha- he hasn't announced his retirement yet, but you kinda think he has by proxy in a way with this squad is Tommy Smith, right? He's a guy that at the 2010 World Cup was a teammate of yours.
R

He was a youngster at Ipswich Town then.
R

Uh, now he's part of this All White squad, but as the set piece coach, um, that journey for Tommy's gotta be interesting.

So, you know, for me, I think it's, With the increasing, you've got to look at it over the last few seasons.
D
40:02Dan ClarkHOST
And if you see the amount of postponements that have happened and then the backlog of fixtures that happened afterwards, we're going to have to accept that either the season extends by a couple of weeks into May, which for me would make as much sense as, you know, with the playoffs anyway, they can still be condensed.
D
40:21Dan ClarkHOST
but also have a couple more Tuesday games here and there just in lieu of having an international break you don't I mean apart from I think it was Tommy Smith at Braintree playing for New Zealand during the World Cup I don't think you see too many non-league players unless they're playing for the Caribbean nations and what have you so I don't think you know it's at that point and I think if it became that point you know where a lot of conference teams were postponing games because they had international call-ups and that's a call for the National League to make But for me at this point in time, I think it's a case where the EFL have to look at it and go, actually, the amount of rearrangements we're having to do, this is time now to implement an international break period.
D
41:00Dan ClarkHOST
It's going to be there.
