But during the first century CE, rock-cut tombs were always multi-person tomb complexes.

As Goodacre says, these tombs were generally cut out of the limestone and included multiple niches called loculi to hold the bodies.

This on screen is the so-called Tomb of Annas, located west of the Old City of Jerusalem.

It's thought to be the tomb of the high priest Annas, the father-in-law of Caiaphas.

You may have heard of Caiaphas as the high priest who played a significant role in the trial and crucifixion of Jesus.

It's a fairly fancy tomb, and notice it consists of a handful of loculi.

Another example is the so-called Tomb of the Kings, which is actually the tomb of Queen Helena of Adiabene, a Parthian vassal state.

Fifth Dynasty Tomb Reveals Colorful Life at Saqqara A collaborative mission of Egypt and Spain has discovered a tomb from the Fifth Dynasty, whose painted reliefs retain most of their original colors.

The tomb was discovered in Saqqara's Marriott Cemetery, and comprises two funerary chapels, one of a very powerful judge called Yunmin and the other his father called Idi.

The tomb features agricultural scenes, offering processions and well-preserved inscriptions on its walls giving a rare insight into public life during the reign of King Jdkar Isasi.

The efforts to haul all of the equipment down to the hole would be a pain, but we hoped it'd be worth it.

I named the passage Floyd's Tomb after Floyd Collins.

It seemed to look like the tight spot where Floyd spent his last miserable days on Earth.

And then OP, uh, shares a picture of kind of a drawing of what he thinks it looks like.

I think that was the title.

Calling our passage Floyd's Tomb was not only a tribute to Floyd, but a commentary of the size of the passage.

If you look actually on your map that I gave you, we always say the Mount of Olives is to the right on your map, and that kind of gives us an idea.

If you look straight down past the Muslim Quarter, past the Christian Quarter, over to the right, you'll see the possible Garden Tomb.

There are two possible places.

Chapter 4 Camping Among the Tombs october ninth after going again to the express office and post-office and wandering about the streets i found a road which led me to the bonaventure graveyard if that burying-ground across the sea of galilee mentioned in scripture was half as beautiful as bonaventure i do not wonder that a man should dwell among the tombs it is only three or four miles from savannah and is reached by a smooth white-shell road there is but little to be seen on the way in land water or sky that would lead one to hope for the glories of bonaventure the ragged desolate fields on both sides of the road are overrun with coarse rank weeds and show scarce a trace of cultivation but soon all is changed rickety log huts broken fences and the last patch of weedy rice stubble are left behind you come to beds of purple and living wildwood trees you hear the song of birds cross a small stream and are with nature in the grand old forest graveyard so beautiful that almost any sensible person would choose to dwell here with the dead rather than with the lazy disorderly living Part of the grounds was cultivated and planted with live oak about a hundred years ago by a wealthy gentleman who had his country residence here, but much the greater part is undisturbed.

Even those spots which are disordered by art, nature is ever at work to reclaim, and to make them look as if the foot of man had never known them.

Only a small plot of ground is occupied with graves, and the old mansion is in ruins.
