Daniel WadeHOST

Like, now there's no excuses.
Daniel WadeHOST
20:46
The first year, hey, it was Tom Telesco's cap, and the books were cooked, and we, you know, blah, blah, blah, we have to kind of just get this thing right, and the exodus of players.
Daniel WadeHOST
20:54
Second year, it's okay, well, our tackles got hurt.

Really excited here in about a half-hour to be joined by longtime NFL executive, including time as, uh, GM of the Chargers and the Raiders, Tom Telesco from SiriusXM NFL Radio.
Alex GoldHOST
0:46
He'll join us in a half-hour.
Alex GoldHOST
0:48
Great timing to have him on the show.
Alex GoldHOST
0:49
Not only is it Chargers week with the Chiefs and the Chargers on Sunday, but he's the GM that drafted Justin Herbert.
Alex GoldHOST
0:55
And right now, one of the, I, I guess we can call it the, the mysteries of the NFL is just how has Justin Herbert regressed as much as he has.
Alex GoldHOST
1:02
And so we'll talk to Tom Telesco about that.
Alex GoldHOST
1:04
What does he make of the Chiefs, their decisions in the off-season to bring in Ken Walker, and what that has done, and also some of the other noise around the NFL, uh, including, as a general manager, I would love to ask him, and we will, about Tyreek Hill, how, I mean, you would proceed with that if he was still a GM in the National Football League with all the noise that's out there and coming off the-

Kinda wanna-
Cody TappHOST
2:22
That doesn't mean I think they're a good football team.
Cody TappHOST
24:53
So many choices.
Alex GoldHOST
24:54
[laughs] Uh, up next, Tom Telesco, former Chargers GM, joined us earlier today.
Alex GoldHOST
24:59
Thinking of SiriusXM, he does radio with them now on the NFL Radio channel, uh, 88.
Alex GoldHOST
25:04
And he joined us to tell us what's wrong with Justin Herbert, and what is he making with the moves the Chiefs have made so far heading into this season, and the return on investment.
Alex GoldHOST
25:23
Nate Taylor is going to join us in about 25 minutes, our conversation with Nate in studio on a Tuesday.
Alex GoldHOST

Chiefs insider from ESPN.
Alex GoldHOST
25:31
We'll ask him about the Justin Watson signing, about some of the injuries, what is he hearing, and what does he make of the Chargers heading into Sunday afternoon? Thinking of the Chargers, earlier today on the Golden Oak Lending phone line, we had longtime NFL executive, former GM of the Chargers and Raiders, Tom Telesco, call in.
Alex GoldHOST
25:47
He is currently a host over on SiriusXM NFL Radio, channel 88.
Daniel JeremiahHOST
35:36
Offensively, they're a mess.
JackHOST
35:38
Yeah, I remember you and Tom Telesco on Thursday's show talking about how, "Hey, penalties and turnovers can be fixed."
Daniel JeremiahHOST
35:45
Oh my gosh.
JackHOST
35:45
Like, that's something you can improve on, and then nine penalties, three turnovers, just-
Steven HaglundHOST
69:50
I'm just very curious what they do, because you do, you would have to hire a guy knowing he's potentially a lame duck GM.
Steven HaglundHOST
69:57
I'll don't hire Telesco, but I mean, the way that Telesco had that one year, With the Raiders.
Steven HaglundHOST
70:04
So that makes me wonder if they would actually just internally promote Chad Alexander and you keep generally the same... drafting philosophy because you keep the same guys that draft and like scout in place i don't think they're really the problem it's just like sign three fucking linemen and then like that's all you have to do like yeah honestly if you just if chad alexander gets a promotion and signs three linemen next year he's already a better a plus done
Tyler SchoonHOST
70:35
yeah I think you could potentially sell an internal like an external GM candidate on like hey man like we need you to come right the ship with Jim Harbaugh for the next couple years after that it's your ship and you're the one making the future decisions because Harbaugh you know is on a five-year deal or whatever and he's potentially retiring sometime soon but it's it's a tough sell man like you GM's are so much more particular about leaving their situations because it's such a you know different job and you know like uh the falcons gm uh ian cunningham he had opportunities to leave for years and was very selective about where he wanted to go and you can do that as a gm candidate in a way that you can't as a head coach um so it's a tougher sell with a lame duck potential coach but theoretically, you know, Jim Harbaugh still has enough sway around the league.
John MiddlekauffHOST
58:40
Got fired the next day.
John MiddlekauffHOST
58:41
So did the Telesco.
John MiddlekauffHOST
58:43
Harbaugh came in, next year they were in the playoffs.
John MiddlekauffHOST
58:46
Last year in the playoffs.

DJ’s point was that the Falcons have built the whole offense around what Penix does best, throws to the outside and shots over the top, behind a run game that’s humming.
NickHOST
2:34
Tom Telesco added that the touch on his layered throws still needs work but called that easy to fix.
NickHOST
2:40
That’s the right way to build around a young quarterback.
NickHOST
2:43
Play to the strengths and stop asking him to be somebody else.
NickHOST
5:34
[upbeat music] Now for the takes I want to push back on.

DJ had former Chargers and Raiders general manager Tom Telesco on, and they went through the oh-and-four teams looking for reasons to be optimistic.
NickHOST
